What type of hosting do you use for your forum/website? Is it shared hosting, reseller, VPS or dedicated server?

I use a cloud VPS for my forum and it's great!

I use shared hosting but have been looking into VPS. I don't have a lot of experience with the host/server side of things so that part worries me. 😳

We use a dedicated server plan for our websites. They are more reliable and secure and provide good management for technical issues.

Who do you get the Cloud VPS from? I have looked at many options, but usually go with a Shared option. I have wanted to get a VPS or Dedicated for forums, but 9 times out of 10, you don't need that much 'juice' for a forum, unless the forum is large.

You can get a managed VPS from a lot of providers which would be a good start. We don't have specific plans but just charge $12/mo extra for VPS management (provided the client uses cPanel BYO license or DirectAdmin). Eventually we'll be offering fully managed SSD cPanel VPSes, things just very hectic with the number of signups we've had this month. We have clients waiting to go on a node which sold out. 😛

What do I host my sites on? Currently just using holderhost's shared platform. If the sites grow, I'll put them on a VPS with another company (because it's always good to try out other services on offer). In saying that Lemonoid.net has been had a good few 10K+ visit days.

Just two tips before fully moving to a VPS/dedi from shared hosting. You could:
1. Use a CDN to serve more static files.
2. Offload just your MySQL database to a VPS, which would be easier to manage.

I am currently using a Shared-Baby plan from HostGator for TalkGG. They had a sitewide discount going on recently, so I got a couple bucks off the monthly cost which is nice. Instead of paying $9+/mo I'm paying around $7.50/mo for the hosting.

If you go to www.talkgg.com you can see that the speed is really nice with this plan.

I went with HostGator because I have used them in the past and they have always been great. I am using CloudFlare as well to speed up the site and cache the files. The combo of good hosting from HostGator and CloudFlare on top of that is insane.

One downfall of HostGator's Shared plan is that they've altered their built in installer so that it doesn't include Forum Software, so if you want to install MyBB or other forums you need to do it manually with their newest version ;(

I use shared hosting, it's simple and cheap. 😛 I don't really need anything huge like a VPS as of now, however the day that I do my wallet is going to weep.

I use Cloud SSD Hosting aswell comes with 700GBPS DDoS Protection, unlimited bandwith etc

I just use a shared server as I do not have enough traffic on any of my projects to need anything more.

I have used Shared Hosting with Croc Web, and Jax VPS

I currently have a VPS with cPanel, I chose cPanel as It was included in the managed vps price and I wanted a control Panel. I would have gone unmanaged and went with Interworx but I did not want to have to worry about updates patches etc. So Managed VPS Was better for me currently.

However I will soon Probably go with an Unmanaged Dedicated Server, with cPanel, and a Management company like Platnum Server Management. I want the Power of a Dedicated Server and the cost lower than some Fully Managed Dedicated Solutions.

JAX VPS,

Also I can you you on my Server for $9.00 a month. I will give you 10 GB disk Space and Unlimited Bandwidth.

The server is lightspeed powered and runs great for the sites I have on it. I do not have a hosting company but can get you link to the billing system we use for a couple clients that I have.

Remember if you pay peanuts you will get poor service.

What shared host do you guys recomend?

I currently use InMotion hosting, I have zero complaints and my sites pretty fast, and the support is awesome. 😀 They are a tad costly, though. We have the unlimited everything plan and it was $125 for the year, I imagine it would only be $60 something bucks for their lowest plan. I have 50% coupon though so if you ever are interested PM me. =P
