In your experience of buying advertisements, what was the best spot that you've purchased? On the flipside of that, what advertisement location was a complete flop?
I have always had good experiences in the Header of websites and forums, and in relationship to forums themselves, I had pretty good click through rates for ads after the first post, and directly underneath the quick reply box.
I've always had good experiences with this spot as well. I think it naturally falls where the user looks, instead of places they'd normally avoid because of the lack of content.
I think the header spot is the best because when a visitor first goes onto the site, they will see it straight away and it often has very good CTR too.
I found buying signature links in very active forum users very effective. Social media sites haven't been that effective for me at all to be completely honest.
