Let's say you had the forum where it wasn't on the homepage like MyForum.com/forum/
Should the logo link the homepage or the forum page? Myself, it seems like it should link the forum while the "home" button would like to the home page.
I personally think it all depends on the type of forum you're running. For example, I'm in the process of making a card game. I've invested over $3,000 into it, and I was using the Wordpress addon BuddyPress. However spam bots came on, spammed over 20k messages and there isn't a mass delete section. So, for this one particular website, seeing as the website itself is the representation of the card game with information, rules, etc. I will be making my Xenforo forum's main logo link to the website itself. As I want the members to be able to return back to the original homepage with ease, and not feel like they're stuck on the forum.
However, in most cases, I completely agree with you. It's 9 times out of 10 more beneficial to have it simply link back to the forum.
I'm tracking what you mean 🙂 Have examplesite.com is a business website. However once you click on forum it takes you to examplesite.com/forum which is xenforo. If you click on EXAMPLE SITE FORUM (Which happens to be the logo) it takes you back to Examplesite.com versus redirecting you to examplesite.com/forum
I think it's beneficial if it's as stated a business site. Most things else, I feel it's better to have it redirect back to the forum.
I think it really just depends on what type of content you have displaying on the root of your domain. For example, forumpromotion.net is just a static homepage that basically never changes, so the logo should definitely link to our forum: forumpromotion.net. On the other hand, if you have legitimate updated content on your homepage, then that's when I think it makes sense to have the logo link back to the homepage. On my sports forum, I have a blog on the homepage, so the logo currently links back to the homepage, rather than the forum. It all depends on what your focal point is.
