Which Is Worse; Drinking Alcohol Or Smoking?

Alcohol is worse when you use it, because it is addicting plus effects you and causes many people to die, smoking just kills that person...... so either way you have ot think about it, smoking deaths can be prevented and causes of deaths due to alcohol could be prevented. . . . its how you look at it really.

O yea your right how a drinking alcohol it can kill others. Yea then alcohol is worse.

I don't smoke and I only drink alcohol on parties, and not that much.

I think smoking is worse than drinking alcohol, because when you drink alcohol you only harm yourself. When you smoke, you also harm people around you with your smoke. ~!~

When you drink alcohol you only hurt yourself? 2 words for you: Drunk drivers.

See I drink occassionally like above but the thing is when you smoke it will damage everyone around you, when you drink you have to make a choice whether or not to drive..

Also, I can't drive so I'm no threat....

But alcohol can lead to funny situations smoking can't, like my gay friend becoming straight

i smoke when i go out but not when i stay at home. i drink everyday.

i dont think having a pint every day harms you, but if your going to drink excessivly or smoke excessivly then both are as bad as each other in the long run.

Some fascinating replies in here, I think.

I don't smoke or drink, and I don't ever intend to. My dad has smoked around me all my life, and I hate inhaling the stuff, the way people smell after they've had a cigarette, and everything about smoking. I also don't ever see myself drinking, because I don't believe that getting buzzed or drunk is a good way to have fun, and to those who do... well, honestly I think a little less of you. There are better things to do. Having one drink as an adult 21+ is one thing, but binge drinking, especially when you're under 21, is another sad matter entirely.

While smoking is very detrimental to one's health, and can be to others' as well due to second hand smoke, I believe that alcohol is the more dangerous of the two. Alcohol impairs judgment, kills brain cells, removes a person's ability to use their brain properly to make decisions (both the reason and cognitive parts of the brain). While nicotine is the most addictive drug, in the doses you get in a cigarette it is less destructive than alcohol. Being addicted to alcohol causes you to do things you wouldn't do otherwise, or while smoking, such as being abusive. You also are going to have 100% more crashes related to drunk driving than smoking cigarettes. One night of drinking can be the end of someone's life, the drinker's or otherwise. And one drink can be lethal, especially for those who don't know what their capacity for alcohol is and greatly surpass it.

This is a hard question... I think drinking alcohol is worse.

Wine does offer health benefits such as preventing heart disease, which is why they say a glass of wine a day is healthy.

In my 19 years I have honestly never had any achohol or tried a cigerette.

I drink on a very rare occassion. I hate smoking, I had Asthma when I was little. Smoking is definitely worse.

According to that they are pretty dam close. Smoking is slightly more addicting but less harmfull and drinking is slightly more harmfull but less addicting. If those slight diffrences cancel each other out i do not know so i cant really say if one is more harmfull then the other i would have to say they are both equally harmfull. Also i think this is a better representation of the issue b/c this is taking out all the driving and secondhand smoke variables.

Both I really think are really dangerous. Marijuana is a lot safer than cigs and alcohol, cigarettes are extremely addictive from examples I have seen in my friends.

I totally agree with you there. Even on the chart i supplyed marijuana is quit a bit lower both in addictivness and harmfullness compared to cigs and alcohol. Why marijuana is banned in most places i have no idea lol.

● Do you smoke? no
● Do you drink alcohol? no regularly
● Which is worse; drinking alcohol or smoking? smoking. Which kills more...smoking does. Alcohol is just as bad but i just feel smoking is worse

Yeah ryanplex, you know how many people die from Smoking pot? 0. 1000 people die from aspirin a year in the US yet that is legal -roll-
I'm pro legalizing marijuana, or regulate alcohol more which is worse. The people that benefit from pot being illegal is alcohol companies, cigarette companies, and drug dealers

Drinking is much worse IMO as it can affect so many others too ie look at some football holiganism, drunk drivers, wife and child beaters (who are more often than not lovely people when sober,)the families of alcholics are severely affected, the drunks out at night fighting and bottling each other, the list goes on... it has such a huge ripple effect when you stop to consider the wider family of the victim of a drunk driver for example. IMO it is not smoking which needs a ban it is booze.

EDIT: just thought i'd add i'm a smoker, I used to drink but only the odd tipple I don't bother any more.
