From my view, last month forumpromotion has alexa around 40K but this month it decreased to 80K, a not good signal

this is which I'm wanting to say to http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/http%253A ... motion.net

While our forum http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/http%253A ... tersun.com is still good and increased light this month and stable at 68K alexa

Just curious what is making forumpromotion.net decrease traffic more this time?

Any thoughts?

If you're using Alexa rank to determine anything, you'll be in for a big surprise a little later on. Alexa ranks are very inconsistent, only certain people actually count towards the traffic "score", and in all honesty; Alexa ranks are pretty useless. It really isn't a big deal that the score dropped, I don't think.

I can't understand how people actually think Alexa is a reliable source to determine a website's traffic...

Alexa has got to be one of the most unreliable services for determining traffic as stated above, it only gathers certain users and not everyone.

A site with an Alexa rank of 1 million can have a lot more traffic than a site with 100k.

The decreasement depends if ForumPromotion has Alexa API installed or not.

We don't have the Alexa API installed. Therefore they don't have accurate data of FP.

Now we know why :great:

Not entirely true. The Alexa API system will give the most accurate traffic stats when installed by the webmaster, however if it's not installed it gets most of it's data from users with the Alexa toolbar installed in their browser, hence why it's often unreliable.

I know that 😛

No API -> We have less users with toolbar/Not accurate enough
With API -> We are getting bad traffic from bits

And as a black SEO user, I can tell that accurate traffic isn't a good thing.

Just the way you worded the post, the decreasement wouldn't entirely depend on the API, it could just be less users with the toolbar installed for example.

As for the accurate traffic comment, it really depends what you're doing SEO for or what your goal is 🙂

It is not good because of crawlers and I have many. I tried the API out and my ranking decreased 3x, removed it and it became 500,000 once again.

For sites that get a lot of traffic, the negative scoring of crawlers won't affect a lot.

Why I mention black seo is because of the crawlers from big search engines that are forced to crawl my site a lot for some reason ... 😛 Anyway, crawlers should be neutral, not negative. That makes Alexa bad imo.

I know this but it is still useful in any cases

It's clearly stated on alexa's website, when you're gathering most of your data from users with a toolbar installed, obviously a site with lower traffic but more people who use the toolbar as opposed to a site with a high amount of traffic but lower toolbar users can easily have a better score. It's logic really..

Exactly.

I own 7 computers. I once actually experimented with their toolbar a few years ago. I installed the Alexa addon/plugin on 6 of my computers and let them be for 1 month automatically refreshing a certain brand new website every 60 seconds.

I then browsed my other websites as normal on my desktop. The result? Well Obviously the brand new website was getting a much higher rank in alexa than my already established website that had over 100,000 more impressions a month.

This also tells you that the alexa rankings can be skewed and faked. However, still, a lot of people still rely on it when buying websites for some darn reason.

Easy to understand, because the out link of website is increasing, that's why the score is decrease.

Just have to have people install the toolbar to fake the stats, otherwise it'll just even out after awhile and then go back up.
