Will I get better sound quality in PC Games by upgrading to a dedicated PCI sound card like a Creative SoundBlaster Audigy or Asus Xonar Sound card for a computer instead of using onboard sound from thr motherboard?

Also, would there would I experience faster game performance with a dedicated sound card instead of onboard sound on the motherboard?

For a faster gaming experience you need to have a Graphics Card installed on your machine. A sound card will provide a better quality of the sound, but not improve the gaming quality much.

I heard in the past, when CPUs were still in the 200-900MHz speed ratings, and had 512MB or less RAM, using a sound card could improve framerates by lowing the CPU, and RAM's resource usage because the soundcard has its own sound processor.

But, I'm not sure if this is still true.
