Would you join a Proboards or Forumotion forum?

SEO couldn't matter less to me as a member. Obviously, I found the forum, right? XD

If the forum is good, and it's something that I'm interested in, it doesn't really matter.

I'm very active on Proboards. Many people don't understand that Proboards has alot of good forums. There are a good number of active forums, that are active since 2003! There are masses of people wo abandon their forums because they find out forums isn't their thing.

Proboards' forum admins generally have a better quality and opportunity. They don't have to worry about hosting, and forum software. For free Proboards.com take away alot of trouble. After that these admins can invest their money in making their forums better. Just because alot of people abandon their forums doesn't mean you can hide the fact that there are alot of people who have successful forums. And I mean it. The success is very successful.

Only Forumotion does the emails.

And this is about free forums from the user perspective.

i wouldnt join any forum on a free host except for a post exchange, domains and hosting are all the range theese days lol there inexpensive and shows you intend on keeping that forum alive with new content.

I only join forums that are on host with cPanel, DirectAdmin or alternative. Forums which are made with ForumMotion, ZetaBoards, InvisonFree, ProBoards, are not good, or managed. Also, they must have a TLD domain for me to join.
Oh please. Are you saying every forum on those hosts will always end up in failure?

-- 05 Nov 2010, 00:30 --

Nien. Now, just because you have a domain an hosting it means that you intend to keep it alive with new content? I disagree, you could sell it or just have a domain with no content at all. Basically all it really shows is that you have a few dollars in a paypal account and know how to get hosting and buy a domain.

Have to agree with this. Really, it's pretty easy to tell when an Admin has put in the effort, but it's not from money they've put into it, it's from the content they put up.

While self-hosting is good in a security and presentational sense, it still doesn't affect the most important thing, which is content. 😕

Unless its for post exchange, I would say no. Maybe Zetaboards is fine but Proboards or Forumotion is NOT OKAY!
As a member, the software of the forum does not matter to me.

As an admin or moderator, forum software matters.

Same here, I cant stand forumotion forums or probaords, but zetaboards arent bad

Like it or not, my immediate impression when visiting one of those boards is that there is a lack of professionalism here. It tells me the owner is either unable or unwilling to buy a domain and hosting account and is less serious about their site.

It's not always the case, but it can largely be the case, that's the problem with alot of free hosts. There will always be a few great forum or sites, but along with them come the hundreds of thousands of abandoned or unprofessional sites which sets up the stereotype for everyone else.

I have also never come across a free board host during my google searches, and I use google alot, I even come across my own site from time to time.

It should be painfully obvious that if you're serious about your site, want to rank in search engines and succeed then the only choice is a hosting account and real domain. It's only a few dollars a month for hosting and $10 or so a year for a domain, you'd easily spend more than that for a decent lunch.
