I've had hallucinations and have dealt with similar scenarios of both "what ifs" throughout my life. I would rather deal with neither of them, but if I had to choose, maybe seeing is better than hearing when it comes to hallucinations, so I'll go with shadows.

Both options are horrible, but shadows are better because I can just cover my eyes and that's it, whereas whispers, even if you cover your ears, you can still hear them.
