Would you rather own a house or rent a residence?

Definitely own my own house. I like having my privacy & taking care of things without having to get someone's okay. We don't even look for a house with HOA's with their rules.

We rented an apartment for 2 months during a transition move to another state and hated having someone living above us! The apartment itself was practically new and very nice so that wasn't a problem at all. The complex had nice amenities and during the weekdays we would get free bagels for breakfast! But owning a house means I can make changes to it whenever I want without permission. And we live on an acre of land so no one living above our heads making noises at all hours.

Although ironically I own a apartment building which I live in. Bought it so my kids have a place to live should they wish.

Renting is so outrageous these days, but I don't have enough money to put down roots anywhere... but if I added up the amount I've paid in rent the last decade, I could probably be close to owning something by now.
