Xenforo is really like high school.

After all this is the same community who actually gave and donated cash to a user who agreed to take a non-transferable license JUST to get rid of a user that they didn't like.....and then actually celebrated while ignoring that users action of piracy

These ongoing scandals with developers in the last 6 months, as well as the permissive attitude that Xenforo staff has to allow certain behaviors on their forums, just looks tacky.

it looks immature. It looks....high schoolish.

I realized the other day what MY MAIN ISSUE with XENFORO IS the very 'community'. Even as I still use the product, it is a good product(Still prefer IPB). It never really was the product. I am stubborn and I can adapt.

It's the atmosphere. It's the stigma of being apart of that community. No, it is not right to group a bunch of people together based on the actions of a minority. Except...it's hard not to do so when the minority is actually the most vocal and it actually drowns out the good people.

We've seen this on admin forums like TAZ. We've seen this on Xenforo sites like themselves.

Allowing the community to band together against these developers. Whether the developers are in the wrong or not, is just tacky and sad. You don't see this on IPS forums. If so, it is rare and the staff steps in.

I don't see this on WBB. Perhaps when Vbulletin was relevant, it was common there. After all, most of these idiots who use Xenforo and are extremely classless and rude are former Vbulletin customers.

You don't even seen this on Free forum software forums where that can attract all sorts of people and what not.

The Mindset of Xenforo.com and it is community is "We're the best. Everyone else is either copying us OR beneath us."

This cult like following, this hive mind mentality, this blatant disrespect of competition and even this in-fighting within their OWN community, just feels like High School.

Adults who have long since graduated and should've matured out of that stage are acting just as juvenile as I did when I was in high school OR just as immature as my 12 years old brother. The difference is...I am 19 years old. he's 12. These are grown ass people.

Reading various threads, Seeing various twitters and then the blatant lack of professionalism of Xenforo staff. It's really sad and that in itself is bad because the product I can grow to like. But the community alone makes Xenforo awful to me.

These are the type of people who i'd have to support their idiotic and often aggressive and classless behaviors by buying their products. I can't support that so I don't.

Idk about all that BS, but I like xenforo because it's a good forum software.

I agree with D, completely here. Most people don't care about a support forum's 'community' though, they go there for help, they get the help they need, they go on their way. Also this isn't a review of Xenforo, this is you ranting and bitching like the same 'immature highschoolers' you claim the XF community to be, about how their 'community' is, and not really a review of the product itself.

Define irony: Forum member creates childish post about childish forum community. You couldn't make it up.

I agree it lacks the professional aspect of it. That's why I stick to well known and established software such as vB and IPS. And I would have to disagree with Smokey considering it's a "Support Forum" it should be properly moderated and you have to remember that this can reflect on your company/product. Perfect example is this very thread and why Nogitsune started this thread.

I am glad someone gets it 🙂

While it was more of a review itself of the community/support forum, that is a factor to many.

What platform gives you the best support and experience when you need it?
It's why I chose IPB over others because I don't have to kiss butt or play nice with people I don't respect or care for 🙂

It's why I didn't choose WBB, even if the product is great, because the support is what I felt was a little lacking and it is why I don't care for Xenforo because the support forums are catty and cliché 😀

We'll overlook the fact two of the 3 above replies are from Xenforo users 🙂

AS I said in my 'rant', the product itself is fine(for the most part) and I'll do a review for the software itself but the support community is just...a mess.

I use vBulletin, actually, but then you'll always try and make things fit your argument.

Communities, be they support forums or game forums are exactly that; communities. Tight-knit, close-linked, call it what you will. I use support forums to get support. I'm not interested in being a part of the clique. I avoid internet tough guys as much as I can.

Point still stands. You created this thread to whine about an entire group, referring to them as:

tacky
immature
high schoolish
classless
rude
hive mind mentality
disrespectful
immature (again)
lacking professionalism
idiotic
aggressive
classless (again)

I'd say, with the greatest of respect, from one adult to another, that you are displaying many of these traits with your rant.

I also believe that I said 2 out of 3, which implies I was not referring to you when I made that comment. I am aware of what you use...your site(a lovely one btw) display it so in its footer 🙂

Be that as it may and I actually agree with your assessment, the key difference is....My rant comes from a former customer of the community and software. As well as the fact, this is my review and opinion VS the behaviors of a community who are in-fighting with developers and the policies and mentality of this product/company compared to their competitors.

More importantly, a support forum is that first and foremost. It's not a forum to hang out at(even if we do) and chit chat and gossip and treat like a clique. It's there for users to get support for all their issues.

When a community starts being clique like and disregarding of others who don't conform to their ideology to the point where they can and sometimes do, refuse to offer support, that is a problem.

Hence why I made the post I did 🙂

Duly noted. Thanks for the clarification. I guess I'm just tired of people fighting all the time about trivial things.

Thanks for the comment about the forum. Tis appreciated.

Is your theme custom? I have never been overly fond of Vbulletin but that is really a lovely theme.

I certainly hope this doesn't lead to fighting. It's just one boy's opinion of a product among 100s/1000s of opinions 🙂

It's a free theme that I took some time to modify to fit the game imagery.

You'll get no fight from me, sunshine. I got the fight knocked out of me in 1984 😉

Interesting.. Honestly, I haven't really looked at their community, so I haven't really seen what you're going on about.

The software itself is somewhat decent. I'd like to think that if this is the case then, they probably aren't allowing it deliberately.
It's likely very hard for them to control the more troublesome people without major backlash, especially if they're influential.
