Socially Uncensored was first founded on September 7th, 2010. My imagined dream was to provide a community where everyone could openly and freely express themselves and share their ideals, thoughts, and opinions without the fear of censorship.
When founding this community, I knew as easy as it sounded to have an uncensored community; the road would not be easy. We would face scrutiny and be judged harshly sometimes. I knew that we would need some order and require rules and policies to allow us to grow, but prevent us from becoming just a site of negativity and hate. And yet we would have to do it in away that allowed freedom of speech, freedom of information, and without censoring our members. And I knew in doing so, others would further judge us harshly and open us to further scrutiny.
This was no easy task I undertook. I knew sometimes it would be not just hard, but even thankless and some people would hate me for it.
But I believed then, as I believe now... That everyone should not be denied a voice and have some place to have the right to their opinions, thoughts, and ideals. A place where people could freely express themselves and know that even the most "taboo" subjects were welcome.
We are here today, not just because I in visioned such a dream. But because you; our members, also sought out refuge for such a place.
Today, Socially Uncensored remains an online digital community to where all this is possible. And among the celebration for today, I still dream and hope others join with me in my dream, that one day such will be possible not just only here.... But everywhere and even offline in the real world for everyone. A day when everyone can honestly speak all their thoughts, opinions, and ideals without some group, government, or society telling them they can't.
