1. Start with A. Amazon, Apple, etc all show up on the top of alphabetical lists of popular sites.
2. Use a common term. Amazon's bookstore will show up first to any student looking up facts about the forest.
3. Start with terms like You, Face, G, Am. When someone goes in to type in Youtube they'll see their recently visited sites - if they've visited your site...Perhaps YouWhatever.com. They'll be reminded. Same goes with Face for Facebook, G for Google, and Am for Amazon. The more they see your site, the more inclined they'll be to be like 'oh I gotta go check that place out again'.
4. Use a domain that people can remember. Don't use 'thmo.net' as that's not always easily memorable. Use something like 'Geekpath.com'. What's easier to remember? Use one word, two words, etc - not random letters.
5. Use SEO improving terms. Using 'GeneralForum.org' will help me get members who are looking for a general forum on Google. Using 'gen4umchat.net' doesn't do the job as well.
6. Don't use hyphens. They suck.
7. Always for .com. After that .net, then .org, and your last choice should be like .biz or .info.
8. Your domain choice should always relate to your site. Don't use 'Anxiety.com' for a forum about sports for example.
9. Always get a domain. Stop using .tk and other free domain extensions that in my opinion, ruin the first impression/presentation of your site - even if the content is amazing.
10. Always ponder on a domain name for about a week or so before you buy it (unless like Twitter.com drops, then go ahead and buy that before it's taken). But make sure you don't buy something you won't use / will lose interest in.
Enjoy 🙂
