Some political extremists like this movie. Basically, the hero is in this North Korean type state where basically he's kept in mental and physical slavery (though not officially as in real cases, like Ancient Rome or something).

Anyway, do you feel this movie lives up to the hype? Also, do you feel some conformity is necessary for society but how much? I mean, Christianity demands conformity, a lot of it. In fact, it claims that the freedom offered to those who disobey is actually, well, slavery - and the same logic is used in North Korea to describe those living in the west.

Just an year to me and no more no less.

The passed it gone and move back n to the future

I've never watched the movie, though I did read the book it was based on.

There are a lot of parallels and warnings in it that we need to be careful of in our modern world. (Bare in mind that this book was written in 1949... So the year itself was just meant to be a future date, even though in our case it's the past now.) Things like government surveillance (NSA and Project Prism anyone?) and thought police (seems a bit like the Social Justice sorts of today?).

Not to derail the thread, but I've never really encountered them (SJWs) outside a college campus, and you'd really have to be searching when on one.

They're there at every university, but they may not make their presence known unless something happens which crosses their ideas (and riles them up... at which point then yeah they make their presence known in a hurry).
There are some universities which are more known for it than others too. Berkeley is one such place. (Though there are also others which are known to be SJW resistant too... University of Chicago being one.)

As for off university, they do become less common.

Though they are present online and they're not too hard to find online. (Sites like Polygon, Salon or Kotaku.) I've seen a lot of them because the roleplay sphere takes loads of influence from tumblr. Tumblr is home to a lot of wackiness. (They make up loads of new genders on tumblr all the time and get quite upset if you don't immediately honour them. Here's a sample... )

No offense to anyone, but you got the loony right and the loony left.

Extremes on both sides actually share more in common with each other than they want to admit. In their zealotry at least...

Throw some trolls in there for good measure just to stir the pot and kick things off/up... And yeah, easy to see how things escalate in a hurry.

The loony left is too compassonate and the loony right is too un-compassionate.

I haven't heard of that movie. But if that is shown now, it probably would stir interest because of the current situation of North Korea with their rocket testing. The bickering between US and North Korea is getting heated to the extent of issuing threats.
