304 days until I am deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan.
Can't wait for my training to be over already!

Anyone here in the forces?

May be, haven't decided yet. Will have to decide quite soon however.
What division of the military (and what country)?

British Armed Forces
Royal Anglian Regiment
1st Battalion

Oh sorry, don't know much about the British armed forces. Good luck though, and stay safe!

Thank you, I hope to do my 4 years and then get out the army. I just wanted a bit of proper life experience before I go out into the world. I was lazy and didn't bother to go to college or do my GCSEs well, so I want to prove myself capable of doing stuff.

If this forum is still around, and I'm still around by the end of my first tour in Helmand, I will post some pics from the frontline. (Taking a helmet cam)

Second that. Being there is enough - make sure you come home - don't want to see anymore parades through the streets of Wiltshire or anywhere else in the UK.

By default I consider anybody who joins the armed forces to defend their country's freedom a hero for their country. I can't even imagine how hard it is for somebody to do that, many of the people who join have a wife/husband/kid(s) at home and may never see then again.

"Dont be a hero" is meant to be read as don't do something stupid to get yourself killed. 😉

In about 3 months I get to go to Canada for a training operation. Last year, when the previous lot went over a million rounds were fired. It's going to be a good week there.

I am serving before I start a family, but I don't plan on getting killed.

I'm former US Army Active Duty, 74D Chemical Operations Specialist.

I was given the opportunity to goto Iraq with the 1st Cavalry Division, but decided not to volunteer for them. ;p

Thanks

Nice, I think I remember seeing some of your army pictures a while back. 🙂

I have been away all weekend on a firearms training course, the 6th one I've done now. I really liked it, I fired loads of rounds (most of which were paint) on the SA80 Mk. II (with SUSAT sight - which is awesome), I also used the GPMG which is fucking mental, no accuracy - just spray and pray.

I really hated the part where we had to take apart our assault rifles, then put them back together again in under 20 seconds. If you didn't finish it, you had to do a 5Km run with the gun held above your head in pitch black.

Hmmmm.

Well I'm not in the army, but I really know how to use a rifle with a scope.

Good luck mate.

Nope, I am currently not in the forces. A lot of people in my family are though. 🙂
