I wrote this myself remembering that I had a forum before. It was active but I closed it down. I'd like to share what I did on getting members.

1. Make it look like your forum is active by exchanging posts with other forum admins. No One like to be by themselves on a forum.

2. Have a good looking theme. Make sure it doesn't hurt the visitors eyes seeing as they could be an active member of your community they wouldn't want to have a headache every time they visit.

3. Write articles about your forum's niche and submit them to Digg, Facebook, Stumble Upon. Also try to link them on your forum sigs. People get curious sometimes.. =]

4. Make sure you post at least 1 thread a day. To keep the conversations going. It helps make google believe that you have an active forum, when you really don't.

If you have more tips to add just post. =]

thanks for sharing although what you've stated is largely well known 🙂

Never hurts to review the basics, you never know someone might get a tip or 2 out of it, nice tips thanks for your help Denise.

Well they're just tips. If your they're useful they're useful, if not, whatever. But thanks. It's just something to help the new forum owners.

Its a start, could be expanded upon, but at least it reinforces it into people's minds.

I've never used Digg but I think I get the idea of it because I see it in search results. So should I post things on my forum and then post the links to my forum on Digg?

Exactly, I've been doing it to every thread that's informative. And GUESS WHAT? I got a click on google adsense. =] That's off topic, but just letting you guys know.

Anyone have anymore tips to add?

I have a Facebook for my site, and was thinking of using Digg. Chances are if I post something Digg would get better results and directly on my site. Google probably searches Digg for interesting stuff and Digg sounds like a good way to get your forum known.

Do you need an account to post stuff there? I guess I'll have to make one...

Yea, you need an account. You should also try Stumbleupon too.

I heard of that one. And I think there are more too like reddit
