I recently had a long discussion with my Phone Carrier about the huge importance of the future of 5G Phones. The bigger concerns is the impact that the 5G might kill certain insects and birds because of the 5G hertz. Although it may be more convenient for us Humans but may cause ecological problems.

What are you're all thoughts on 5G, do you think it may be good, bad, or just terrible?

My notion is that I welcome new technology but if its killing the eco system we need to find better alternatives or there won't even be a 6G.

Oh boy.

5G essentially means 5th generation for cellular data protocols, like what the AC protocols are for wifi routers. It does not describe the frequency. Cell carriers in particular will utilize most of the same bands already allotted to 4G LTE (600MHz - 6GHz), and incorporate new bands between 24GHz - 86GHz.

It's the lower-frequencies that do the most biological damage, as they exert less of their energy into the mediums they travel though. That initially sounds like a good thing, but it means it's going to penetrate deeper into your body and impact more organs. The new higher frequencies that 5G will make use of are going to be almost entirely blocked by skin, and that making it through will have extremely low amplitude (low energy).

The reason cell carriers use such a wide range of frequencies is because they have very different performance characteristics; this allows more reliable connections across a wide range environments. The high frequencies used by 5G will be what deliver the biggest performance improvements, but that's going to be dependent on clearer line-of-sight to their transmitters. In all other cases, the system will dynamically fall back on the lower frequencies that penetrate better; 4G already does this.

Feel free to ask any other questions; I work in this field.
