95% of vBulletin customers would not recommend VB

I dislike VB mainly because of its price. I know the developers work hard on the forum, but I cant justify spending close $500 on a full package.

I'm surprised that there are so many people who dislike vBulletin. I quite like it, and have tried out other forum softwares. I prefer vBulletin because to me its easy to use and navigate.

The price IMO, is good for a lifetime license. You can always pick up vBulletin licenses on sites that have Classified forums. I've picked up 3 forum licenses for under $100, which is a huge bargain compared to the $250 new price.

While there are not many themes available that I like, I have found a site that offers high quality themes for vBulletin 4 that I use on my sites.

I have been using vBulletin since 2008. But I don't know if I will be upgrading to vBulletin 5 anytime soon. I guess I'm just like those who stuck to vBulletin 3 when vBulletin 4 was released.

It's not vBulletin the people don't like, it's the people behind it and how they develop it that people don't like.

Look at vB5, it was rushed out when it was nowhere near ready. They wanted to get something out quick and so they released a forum only version so anyone with CMS can't upgrade yet even if they wanted to.

I am reserving my judgement though until vB5 bugs have been ironed out and CMS is released. Until then I am sticking with vB4.

v5 seems to be an unlucky number for forum software. 😛 v5 is also the number that is probably going to kill Proboards. It did for many people. Maybe, they'll gather a new audience. But only time will tell.

The Licensed Customer Feedback forum section at vBulletin.com is a section of their forum that can only be seen and used by those that own a vBulletin (VB) licence. In other words only paying VB customers can use it and post there. Unfortunately the feedback in that section has been extremely negative since VB released VB5.

I posted a poll there, with the simple question "Would you recommend VB5 to a friend?" The poll has had 39 votes to date. Only two voters said that they would recommend VB5 to a friend and the remaining 37 said they would not recommend VB5 to a friend.

The poll has been open less than 24 hours and considering that the people voting are VB customers who are visiting VB's own forum, that has got to be a very worrying statistic for the staff and management of VB.

I am really surprised with this. Is there really such a big difference between the old VB and the new one?
