I want to set up a domain but I have two questions:

1) Do I have to have all my details publicly viewable on the WHOIS directory?
2) Can I have my old domain (.comze.com at the end) and the new .com one I wanna register active at the same time? (There are links to my site on a bunch of directorys and it's mentioned in a book, too).

Thanks in advance.

1) Depends on who you buy it with. Most of the bigger companys offer a service (usually for free) that hides it. Just read the details when buying it.

2) Yes, simple use .comze.com as a redirect to your new domain. For example, ChatTopia.net is setup as a redirect to another domain of mine. When they visit .comze.com they will be redirected to your new domain.

Hope it helps -razz-

Thanks 🙂

Can you tell me exactly what companies will let me hide my details from the WHOIS database though?

I know for a fact GoDaddy does, as my dad just bought a domain there less than a week ago. It was free as well.

http://www.n4me.eu does as well, also free.

Those are the only two ive used myself and know for a fact.

I was gonna use GoDaddy anyway because it's cheap.

Thank you very much 🙂

EDIT: one more question, though, when I redirect my domain to the .comze.com one, will it comes up with my .comze.com one on the URL bar or will it show my .com domain?

If the user types ".comze.com" into the bar and it redirects via htaccess then the url bar will show your new .com domain.

Same if you do it the other way as well.

http://chattopia.net redirects and you see the new url in the address bar.

For reference, NameCheap is also good registra that includes WHOIS protection if you wish. GoDaddy is good enough though -8)-
