My firm had contacted a really large SEO firm to do the search engine optimization, and they have a really big name and good repute in terms of SEO. However, they had been giving really bad results even after working with them for so long and paying them really good sum of money. I have to ensure that my company website reaches the top of search engine listings, and so I need to get the best SEO work done. I have been seeing that there are many freelancers that generate terrific results. Are these freelancers better than SEO companies over a long run?

Never rely on a SEO company. I would always do the SEO myself, and that way, I can ensure that I've done everything legal, and getting organic results in rankings, rather than paid results, or paying for other things in order to get results.

Maybe spending some money on better articles or web design can help with getting more visitors.

I tend to get disappointed in many of the top results in Google since the articles did not help me solve my problem, or they were vague and hard to understand sometimes.

Having a nice looking template can also help.

You have to be careful, I read some unethical SEO companies/people may use Black Hat Methods which can get you unindex or poor search results from Google, Yahoo, Bing, or Ask.. because you are trying to game the search engine rankings.

Reliability is key because there are certain industry standards associated with SEO — and a good firm will be able to outline those for you and explain how they avoid making your site look like spam to a search engine. Checking references is an easy way to test credibility. Any firm can have a good pitch, but the customers’ actual experiences always should hold more influence when you make a final decision — and a firm should be more than happy to provide references to you.
