Hi guys,

I am a member of the nonprofit organization Help the Children. You may have heard of it, as it is one of the top NPO's in the world. I want to talk to you about the program we are doing. The Guatemalan government has agreed to give us land in exchange for us building a hospital. With the rest of the land, we can build what we want. We plan to build a church, a school, and an orphanage.

We are currently needed 5000 people worldwide to pledge $20 a month for 6 months ($120). This is a small price, compared to your daily Starbucks, McDonalds, etc. And all proceeds will go to saving lives. Anyone who pledges the money will have their name on a nice plaque when the project is finished. For further perspective, this town consists of 300,000 people. The nearest current hospital is 58 miles away, but the time is actually an hour and a half, with all the twists and turns. Many people die from simple injuries, because there is no medical aid close by. You can help change this.

This is not a scam. Help the children is a world renowned NPO, and I am proud to be a part of it. They have done great work, and will continue to do so.

Well the world can easily be fooled by a scam.

Those four buildings you're planning on constructing are disgusting IMO. Maybe if your organisation worked on keeping colonialistic countries like Britain and the US out of these countries, I'd support you.
But not to make torture centers.

his sig says it all. i mean keeping countries like the US and Britain out would mean these countries will never get a hospital and more people die because people that sit at home all day like him dont know what its like in the real world. i bet he's never been out of the country to see what its like out there

I've been outside more than you, I'm sure. And even though that's not the issue, I think this fact gives some weight to my experience.

Pharmacutical industry and the urge humans have to be sick bastards have merged. And with rising populations, you have ever multiplying numbers of idiots who don't know how to run a body or people in geniune serious need. So hospitals were born. Because humans are sick bastards?

Have you been to one, may I ask? lol

Just because my thoughts don't match your Reality Tunnel doesn't actually mean I'm going to take your horseshit.

You know what this is? It's an opinion. Something this world hasn't seen in the past 100 years.
Now "opinion" means "Are you for children's rights or are you not?" - "Do you vote Labour or Conservative? Democrat or Republican?" - "Which Adam Sandler movie do you like best?"

So the development of a community on the other side of the planet relies soley on Britain and America helping out?

You're right! I've never been to a 3rd World hell-hole. Who would want to? It sucks there. And there's nothing I can do about that, other than bring down your empire.

I'm not buying into this consensus that human beings are dumb animals who can't, when left to their devices, develop a fair political system and build their own amenities!

ok... i've been out wayyy more than you. ever been to the middle east? didnt think so. ever sat on a plane with people who look nothing like you, wont acknowledge you, and wont even treat you like your a person? ever been to africa and seen people die because they cant get water? ever seen someone die because there are no hospitals. and saying you've never been to a hospital proves how little you do. that means you've never risked anything. ever had a family member saved because of a hospital. ever been saved by a hospital? just because hospitals are not fun and they can hurt doesnt mean the drug companies are doing it on purpose. take a lil anatomy/chemistry/biology and see why not everything can be cured by some lil old lady who is so nice and just give you a lil spoonful of something and your on your way. its not that simple. third world countries cannot support themselves. why do you think other countries come in. sure they arent dumb. but they dont have the means to get the resources. thats where large countries come in.

and in case you were wondering i have done all of those things at the top of my post. so dont act like i've never gotten out. not only have i gotten out. i've seen it first hand. which is better than some biased newspaper or tv channel can ever do.

yeah... so why try to talk about things that you have never been to. when you see something other than the place you've been and you try to help someone other than yourself because your right, people arent stupid and they can do things on their own, but sometimes they need a lil help to get started. so when you go help someone let me know. until then your opinion is one scewed by the tv screen
 
Wow you guys. I was intrigued when I first saw the thread title, but now.. whew! Taking this to whole new levels.

I think it's admirable that you support a non-profit, agent. I've worked for two, Greenpeace and Working America. It's insanely rewarding to participate in something that you believe in. Keep it up!

Yet, I do agree with some of the points that Howard raises. I sometimes feel that Americans put thier hands in the cookie jars of many other nations. I'm not saying that we shouldn't help, but we have the tendency of spreading ourselves too thin. And our projects may seem good, but they really don't fix the problems of the country. For example, you can build as many hospitals as you want, but if say, malaria is what is putting people in those hospitals, it would be far better to go down there and educate people about how they can prevent the disease, and how they can reduce the mosquito population. I believe it's better to help countries improve thier own self-sufficiency as well, rather than having them continue to rely on larger nations for a bailout.

However, this is all just my personal spin on things.

And don't get me started on the evils of the pharmaceutical business. It's neither here nor there and just puts my panties in a twist! 😛
 
that i agree with. especially once i saw self-sufficiency. because you cant keep going to the same place over and over with the same things. and of course pharmaceuticals do some sketchy stuff, just not as crazy as Howard is thinking. i mean if you don like em fine, watch what happens when we get rid of them... and as howard wants hospitals too
