A New Social Network... A Better One

What do you lot think when I say about creating a brand new social network? I'm not after comments like how are you going to create it or there isn't enough room for a new one, as it will be built from scratch and there is also room for another one 😉

What features would you like to have, for instance what do you like to do on Facebook, or Twitter but it isn't there? What would you like to see. It's a new project I've been thinking about and could take years to make, but target research is needed 🙂

Look at user efficiency and the ability to remove and add features without digging through a user panel with 10 tabs and 10 subsections. I remember signing up to Facebook was annoying as turning off email notifications took a while to find.

Whatever we say is dependent on your idea. We can't really comment as I could say "I like notifications" and the other guy will say "I dislike notifications", as an example, so it's going to be hard without giving away some idea of the project.

I personally think its not worth your time and you could spent your valued time elsewhere.

Well you wont ever know until you try, I'm going to start it and if it doesn't work out then at least I can say I did it.

Put in powerful privacy controls, lest you end up with the same PR nightmares as Facebook and Google.

As an FYI, Twitter is not a Social Network. 😉
Sure it is. Twitter is a social networking service, as well as a microblogging platform. You can connect with others on Twitter, thus making it a social network. It can be seen in this list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_so ... g_websites If Twitter is not a social network, then what is it?
Biz Stone and other head of Twitter declared it not a social network.

I get the feeling that Twitter just doesn't want to be compared with Facebook and other similar sites, but by definition, Twitter has social networking aspects, thus allowing it to be a social network. Even if Twitter delivers news, I can discuss it with friends via Twitter. Since there is interaction, it can be classed as social networking, but the changing/dynamic nature of the Internet and Web 2.0 platform makes it something different from other sites. I just think there isn't a word for Twitter like sites yet, but should come in the near future.

Yeah to be honest I consider twitter a social network.

As for your project, I say if you're that motivated, go for it. That's how all of those guys got their sites up like facebook and myspace etc. But I'll tell you now, it's a lot more of a revolutionary business practice when you come up with a brand new idea. It's very hard to improve on something that millions of people already use and make your own out of it. In short, do what you gotta do, but don't quit your day job.

I'm sure when Mark Zuckerberg was creating facebook people would have considered it a waste of time because "Myspace is the best thing." (I didn't see Social Network if anyone is wondering...) I say go for it, because there will (or at least should) always be a next big thing!

Personally, I think all of those games and quizzes are totally pointless, especially since a lot of them just want to store your information.

I think you should try mending twitter, facebook and youtube together, like have a basic but sleek design like Facebook, a media area like Youtube and something to do with Twitter, also if you can find a good features thats good for MySpace the forum can be called, You Tweet My Face.

Book-My-Tweet-tube?

That's a good idea though, like a mirco blogging part for twitter, media is youtube, and the design is facebook 🙂 + rep

Two tips:
Uniqueness is needed.
A very strict security system needs to be put in place.

@Lee great idea 🙂

If you want any help with making/researching/admin i would help.

Thanks for your interest. My website is now done so production on this is now going to underway. I see that I also have some competition now as well as Facebook 😉
