A Warning about Simple Machine (SMF) Software

A big problem seems to be theme incompatibility with the forum version. In that case, there is login errors (timeout errors). However, they can be fixed with some code manipulation.

A lot of software is like this, but with SMF it tends to be with minor versions when others have issues with major versions. Isn't much to do but learn how to adapt the theme to fit your own needs.

The free stuff is for DIY types - who don't even need help at all. Myself, I've noticed that it always requires research on my own. But that can be educational, but frustrating to some.

Yea even 5+ years ago SMF has always been a do it yourself type software. The community of SMF was a lot more helpful back then though. I imagine these days it is not as active as when people were in love with free forum software.

I don't think these free forum software brands are crap, but they require a lot of DIY knowledge, assuming you're going to move away from the default theme.

However, though, I have gotten bad support from XenForo before, but not normally.
