A woman went to hospital for minor jaw surgery instead had extensive brain surgery performed, making her a vegetable on a ventilator, she later died.

How...HOW HOW HOW can the hospital even try to cover their butts? How can they even try to say no wrong doing was done? There was a CT mix-up, and an elderly woman had an unnecessary dangerous surgery that was the cause of her death! In the medical profession, you CANNOT simply say "oops, mistakes happen." You are a trusted individual who holds someone's life in your hands. There can be no mistakes.

That is absolutely ridiculous! I don't understand why they wouldn't check her surgery before putting her under anesthesia.. or at least get a family member to check.. How can they even mess up that bad?

On top of that, did they not say "We need to get you in for emergency surgery due to a brain bleed"? If they told her this, I'd imagine she'd of said "That is not right", so it sounds like she may have told them this and they ignored her.

The hospital is lucky I'm not a family member. I'd be out for their blood for this, especially their "it's not our fault" attempts. I'd take them for everything they own.

As someone who is in part of medicine field, it sounds almost impossible for this to happen. There are usually many 'checkpoints' before someone is operated, no matter how emergency it is. I wonder if there is another story behind this, as it seems like a case of neglect beyond imagination.

I'm sorry for the family about this, hopefully they can get the justice they deserve, even though it won't bring the dead back to life.

I'm aware it can be painful, but if they can prove that the hospital is too shady to operate it can probably be taken down and saves other lives. I wonder if it's possible to get that far, though.

It all started with the mix up of the CT scans, from what I read in the story, but the astonishing thing is that the hospital rejects any wrong doing! To me it was gross negligence on behalf of the staff who gave the incorrect CT scan to the surgeon in the first place.

You are correct, it started from the mix up. However, I've had a huge experience in having surgeries. I've been awake in the operating room before they start the surgery. They ALWAYS double check what they're doing, and always tell the patient what they'll be doing and explain it.

This wasn't just gross negligence, this was incompetency by the staff that mixed up the x-rays AND the surgical team who failed to properly talk with the patient.

I can't believe how any hospital could operate on someone, and not admit that they were wrong. I smell a coverup here.
