Hello,

It has come to my attention that I am losing bandwidth quite quickly. These are my Awstats: http://i50.tinypic.com/2z4zklg.png Is that normal? I'm not quite sure, but is it possible a bot is absorbing my bandwidth, or something like that? Do I have to protect directories, etc.?

Thanks.

Wow, almost 1gig bandwidth for only 127 unique visitors. That's pretty high. Maybe bots are just going around the site, as you have many "page" views and "visits". Not really sure what you can do to prevent that.

I'm not sure. This is what hits I have from bots:

Googlebot - 213 - 3.11 MB
Yahoo Slurp - 87 - 1.43 MB
Unknown robot - 16 - 195.40 KB
Unknown robot - 13 - 201.71 KB
Unknown robot - 3 - 96.67 KB
Unknown robot - 1 - 29.70 KB

I can't see a human taking the time to visit that many pages just to screw with you. Maybe it is a bot that is not recognized...

Networking, nope. In actual fact, no attachments at all.
agentmanningctu, possibly.

Would posting the link to Twitter twice have a major impact?

hm... It may be your being ddosed, do you have a chat box running, or something auto-refreshing. Maybe a MOD making Users online refresh as you are having 173 users running 47,000 page loads and 1GB. Are they big pages? Whats your cPanel disk usage?

No chatbox, no mods sounding like that.

This is the disk space: 109.26 / 5000 MB

Another question, would placing an image on another forum, say FP, using your directory, (so, http://admincrunch.com/images/...png) be a way to waste a lot of bandwidth? So really, hotlinking?

In your hosting account there may be a feature Called HOTLINK Protection.

That will prevent users from using images on your site in their website by linking directly. This should solve your problem.

If all of your unique visitors are members the bandwidth seems fine. If not there is something wrong. You could block non-productive traffic countries by IP which could help.

No can for now. I have all my images on 3-4 forums "hotlinked" so if I protect them now, they will all show up as blank.

In AWstats, it shows a list of 25 IP's and it also shows how much bandwidth that ip has used. See if there is one that stands out quite a bit and Google it and see if you get any results back hinting it may be a bad IP.

This.
Also if the IP is 220.181.7.*, block it. It is a search engine from China that sucks BW to extreme forces.

SA, its AC.
Fowler, apart from my IP, its pretty scattered with many IPs around 20-80MB. Others has 340MB.
Kirisute, nope. Can't see that IP you said.

About to hit 1GB of bandwidth.

340MB? Have a look into that IP. Also check on the forum who it is, if they aren't important, use the ip deny manager.

No, that is the "Others" list. It just has "Others" and then the amount of BW. No IPs or ISP.
