Do you have an "About" page or thread anywhere on your forum? Do you think having one is useful?

In some instances, I think it can be. In other instances, I don't think it is required.

If you have a general discussion forum, I don't necessarily think one would be required. If you have a forum with a very specific niche', I can see where an "About" page would be helpful.

I think an "about me" page is only good on certain forums that have specific niches... Like Grimalkin said, a "about me" page for a general discussion forum, it doesn't really make sense. However if your forum is about a specific niche that maybe only you and a handful of other people might know about then a "about me" page works. I also think forums for different clans should have "about me" pages, just to let guests know what their forum is about.

My old forum had an about page, and also FP kind of has one (The Guide page). I don't think these are essential, but a nice touch. I always kind them hard to write though. 😛

No, but there is a welcome message (which is displayed to guests and not-logged-in users) with a little info about the community. It's a gaming forum, so I don't think it personally needs a essay on what it's about. 😛

I personally have a navbar where people can read about it, not fully described though.

On ours we don't necessarily have an about page. We just have a small rules page and a little introduction/site type thing so people can sort of get a feel for what the place is if they just happened to stumble across it.

I think a nice alternative for general boards (or any niche really), would be a page noting key events in your forum's history.

Most good forums have a history behind them, that new members generally never learn about; it'd be a good way of letting them know common parts of your board culture, and letting people in on inside jokes.

This^

I find them way to hard to write. I had a help doc written up all about the forum which seemed to help some but in most cases it's generally easy to find out what a forum is all about by looking at boards and the theme itself.

No generally if people have questions they can email or post in the feedback section.

I did at one time but not anymore. I should probably look into remaking it 😀

Never really had one besides a rules page, unless you are talking about staff about me, then yes.

We don't have an About page although we only started yesterday. 😛

Nope. Just to tweet size message that I have on my footer.

People don't like to read long message's anyway. Not sure I need one

-- On mine many of us tend not to actually come with an in relation to webpage. Most of us just possess a modest regulations webpage and also a very little introduction/site variety factor thus individuals can almost have a sense pertaining to exactly what the place will be whenever they just transpired to help stagger throughout this.
