Does anyone know how to get active members on your forum?

I'm struggling to get any active members. Most of my members are from post exchanges.

I'm thinking it's the host I use. Not alot of people like forumotion and there is no donate cash mod which is very important.

Well no the host isn't your problem, ive seen huge forumotion boards, try asking yourself these questions:

1. Do you have any uniqueness amongst your board? What sets you out from the rest?
2. Do you provide anything worthwhile for both guests and members?
3. Why should people join your forum?
4. On your forum, what makes guests register?
5. Do members have reasons to keep coming back to your forum?

If you can answer those questions with a decent answer, meaning they all have good answers, then your doing fine and need to wait it out, just remember your forum won't be active in a matter of 2 weeks.

I'm afraid it's very luck based. You just have to hope you get loyal members. I was lucky with my Futurama forum as I very quickly got loyal members that stayed for a good year posting several thousand times and I even have members who joined at the beginning STILL posting regulary 3 years later lol Luck of the draw but make sure you give them a reason to join in the first place and then don't let them go. Do anything you can as they are more valuable than you realise!

Ignore the fact that you're with ForuMotion. Actually, there are heaps and heaps of successful ForuMotion sites eg. GeekPolice (100,000+ posts), HideCodesGalore (1.1 million_ +posts). They are all successful and that doesn't mean you can be too.

I agree with both Nathan and Cloverfield. You can attack this issue problematically and well, luck-based. I'd say its more luck and when the time is right, when a user with similar taste comes, thats when the activity really starts.

Good luck. (BTW, in your statistics for ForuMotion, the bigger the numbers, the better chance)

I think not starting forums every week, and being dedicated to just one :great:

I've been told it's a waiting game too, you have to be patient and just keep plugging away at getting new members.

I have about 30, but only 1 I advertise, the rest I use for upload space... 😛

making them part of staff makes people keep coming and posting and stuff........
Because if they feel like they have something to do there then they will 99.9% come back......also inviting close E friends from other sites help, because i know that I'm a member of like 5 milllion forums, MOST of them are acttive forums and if you make friends that are close on there ask them to be a mod or admin or something. This is besides the point but it will also make your forum safer because you KNOW yoiu can trust them, there not just random people o_0

I think Nathan pretty much hit it with his advice.

My board is over 4000 members on Proboards, so no, it is NOT your chosen host, whatever you choose. Without seeing your board at all, I would just advise you to advertise, try 70 ads on other forums for starts. Do that and then you should get at least 2 to 5 new members or thereabouts within a week or so. See how that goes.

Yeah, all staff at ES, we've known each other for like 3+ years, and have stuck together all this time, it great.
