OK, so right after I opened my forum, I quickly advertised. I did in more than 10 forums, added a bunch of content, and it's more dead than a piranha, just after 2 weeks. What do you think I should do (or did wrong)?

Well, I read some where, Zetaboards forums die within days. The owner needs to be active them selfs, cause you can not rely on users to post for you. Try post exchanges! My users come from all sorts of sites, as when I gave admin op to a user, they began to advertise. You need a strong topic that covers everything.

You need a good skin, so users don´t want to leave as soon as they post, you want them to stay. If you need help you could contact the owner of www.everything-animal-crossing.com and ask for help. As they are a good zeta boards forum. Ask for tips! Advertising allot will help too. Try making some one staff, so they have to stay. Have a caughty site name, which includes alliteration, short and simple. You could give it a make over in skin, as that tends to work.

If you really need help, make some users and let them post so it doesn´t look like your site has died. It would work, by giving rewards to active users, like a bank, where you can get forum money to get stuff. Also no ads help boost up, as people see nasty ads. I think with zetaboards, you get a trial with no ads for free! Domains work too, so if people search music forum, your forum (If it is music based) will come up. Good domains are .com . So users do not think it is zeta boards make it look less zeta board like.

Have patience.
You forum is 2 weeks old, and its already dead you say?
A forum thats 2 weeks old cant be at it's peak yet.
Give it some time.

You can consider your forum dead if the activity remains the same for the next 3 months.

I suggest you to forget about Zetaboards and other free forum hostings. Not all people join these forums anymore. Get a free web hosting, install a forum software, get a unique domain and forum theme and make a homepage. That makes your forum ultra active in no time. 🙂

None of that is required. All that is required is dedication, topics such as this don't help at all, what if one of your active members were to see this? What do you think they'd say? Personally all you need is:

A) Dedication.
B) Good & unique topics, don't copy + paste from other forums (some topics are ok, but not everything.)
C) Good staff, make sure they treat members with respect.
And lastly, D) Be friendly to all your members.

If you do all that, you should find yourself with small activity in no time, then the rest is up to you with what you want to do with the forum.

Also don't think your forum is going to pick up in it's first two weeks, ask anyone here, the only way you really get that is by doing post exchanges, but then after those are completed you see less and less people returning, you just need content worthwhile for your visitors.

my forum hasn,t been that busy either since i started mine on 5th october, but i do most of the posting up on the ther myself. All you can do is give it time who's wot can over the next few weeks or months. From the advice i have been it can take a wile for a forum to get up and running properly with loads of activety.Just have patience like i have to have with mine.
everybody with a forum has started were we are now and look at the some of them now. All it takes time a dedication and plenty of posting yourself to make it work.

"I quickly advertised. I did in more than 10 forums"

Typical free-ad campaign should go at least 50 forums. Try for 70 or more. And do that every week. In between make sure you greet your newbies and engage them in the forum's conversations. Those first few days are critical in whether they decide to stay.

Your daily guest views should go up somewhere over 100 with these regular ad campaigns. If they're not, something's wrong. If you are getting over 100 guest hits a day, you should then be starting to get at least 2-5 new members a week. If you aren't, something's wrong.

Give this a shot, and let us know how it goes.

Do post exchanges to fill up the forum with content, and keep the advertising going. Hitting up 10 forums once isn't gonna do anything - accumulate a decent amount of posts in each forum so people will be seeing your ads everywhere. You need to make sure there's enough exposure.

And if your forum seems inactive for a period, don't for the love of vicotria secret shut it down, I don't understand why owners have made a forum, only to close it, eh,...lol just keep it open.

That, and advertise... 😛

I keep my old dead forums open. Never know when someone will come along and like what they see. It's not doing any harm just sitting there...

I dunno about anyone else, but I don't like join-for-joins. {Is that what post exchange is?} Just gives me a cold feeling all over to think someone on my board, or even any board is just there because they're basically being paid to be there. I say give your board something that makes even a few people want to be there for its own sake and it will slowly grow from there. Note slowly. My site's big now but for its first year and a half, it was a pretty small forum.

Actually there's a whole lot of people that refuse to use anything but a certain type of free forum host. There is a huge ZB community that won't touch a self-hosted forum.

Have you tried guest-friendly advertising? That is very popular on Zetaboards. Look around on their support site at some sites advertising, and I'm sure you'll find ones that have it.
