Adding a forum to Geeks Hut

So recently I've been rolling around the internet (as one does these days) and I've come across many of my competitors forums, which I didn't realise they had.

I'm wondering whether you think I should add one to Geeks Hut.

Pros:

• More traffic
• More in-depth discussion about topics outside of what I write on the blog.
• A place for people to get support with their tech products.

Cons:

• More work by the staff.
• Could become more popular than the blog (I'm wanting Geeks Hut (the blog) to remain the focus.

What are your opinions, should I add one or should I not? 🙂 Is it something you would even consider joining!?

Just wanting advice, since I haven't been in the forum game for a year and a half now.

There's the opportunity for more traffic, money through AdSense and more discussion (users can create their own discussion, instead of me writing about it). It's really tripping me up, one one hand there's good pros, but on the other hand I don't want my or the sites focus to go away from the blog.

The other thing is the blog doesn't get enough traffic to pay for staff to write 🙁

Yeah, it does take a long time, but I'm looking for more revenue streams to pay for authors =/

For a very new forum in a competitive niche, it can be very difficult to get forum members and many new posts daily. But, it seems as if you really want to start a forum. So you should do it. This will give you additional Adsense earnings opportunity. Also, you can make your job easier with the forum by limiting it to only a few subforums (rather than dozens of highly specialized subforums). This is important to do, especially if you only have a few dozen poster daily as they won't create much new content to fill all the subforums.
