Admin Annoyances

well sometimes with SMF the fact that lots of plugins/mods are incompatible with the version you are using -razz-
Also seeing the quality of a forum you own drop is a big annoyance

For me it is spammers.... Since day one of FP there has been spam. Every day we are deleting spam posts, banning or deleting members and it is never ending. It takes up to much time -🙁-

Well, I hate that you have to complete everything like requests etc. Having a promotion forum and being the only administrator would be terrible because you would have to 'take care of' / 'add' any requests, move the threads to the Completed section, etc.... and that needs to be done practicaly every week. Other than that, there are other things to take care of like general requests, spamming members, posts that should be trashed, etc.

It's a lot of work both good and bad. Sometimes I will be up until 12.00 AM talking with members on the phone about a banning issue. If you want to do it right, you have to be perfect at it. Also controlling your staff can be a hassle. Sometimes you don't know what to do, remove their permissions or keep them because you know they can do some great moderating. But on the other hand you can take credit for what you have done.

Whoa.. You give out your phone number to members? Wow you are brave.. Only my staff have my cell number.. lol..

Trying to please every member has to be my biggest peeve. It can get pretty difficult.. Why do people have to be so picky?

What annoys me is spam bots! A co-admin installed mods to get rid of them, which ARE effective but occasionally one gets through. ~mad~

What really ticks me off is when you get users who think it's "cool" or gives them some kind of unwritten power to have the highest post count / Cash (or points) / Reputation Points. Additionally, I hate it when you need to Ban a member and they spend hours creating countless accounts through proxies or whatever. It's not so much the fact that you have delete every account that's the problem - it's more so the inconvenience and the fact I have better things to do.

Similarly, I hate it when people make multiple accounts because they want a "fresh start" or they think it's some kind of game to see how many accounts they can make without the Admins noticing.

*sigh* - that was a good rant.

It's dedication. Usually I try to avoid phonecalls, I've only made a few myself but they are sometimes needed. Being in Alberta Canada, long distance calling for an hour isn't the greatest thing either.

I feel the same as murder he wrote, members that don't take kindly to a ban can take up so much time, probably my biggest annoyance.

My biggest annoyances aside from spammers are members who don't read the rules for posting images. I run a forum where members post large high resolution celebrity photos. Every forum has a stickied topic with the photo posting rules that says must read before posting pics. I still get members who insist on posting the full sized versions of photos instead of thumbnails. Another annoyance are members who hotlink to photos on other websites.

My annoyance is spammers, spam bots, especially in SMF. There are like 5 spam bots each day 🙁

I hate it when people backseat moderate. It's the kinda thing people do to suck up and try to get on staff team.

Spammers, etc. I put up adds in school and so everyone said ''hey let's piss WotG off by posting gay porn on his website''. So when I got home one day I had to clean up the entire forum and ban around 50 members. Charming.

The only thing that pisses me off is dealing with the idiots and useless people that come on my forum. A week ago, four people signed up that were all named after Transformers characters and even pretended to act like them too, yet they made quality posts. They got deleted afterwards and of course, got their IPs banned. The forum was cleaned up to from their mess.

I had to deal with that two times today on my forum. It really annoys me as well.

So far I haven't had that problem. May it stay that way too. *Prays feverishly*

But yeah, how do you discern back-seat moderation from a friendly comment warning a member that they'll make the mods angry if they keep on double posting?
