Admin Me or I quit!

I would just ban them
So if they are the most active member on your forum and many people post because of that member, would you still ban them?

I don't think ban is appropriate. ban can only be used when a member violate the forum's rules. I think this kind of member doesn't violate the forum's rules; s/he is only being rude. just leave him/her alone and let him/her quit.

It's just like the real world, isn't it? People who get selected for any position on your forum should just be grateful that they even HAVE a job. I've never had this happen to me, but if I did, I'd probably show them the back door (a permanent ban in other words).

But forums can turn into the real world. DeviantART for example. "Supposedly", the board had pressured one of the owners and they took his job from him, yet he was the founder.

People should be grateful, but the owner should be cautious in how they act themselves.

Yeah, I guess it's safe to say that's true as well. I mean, you just can't hand your board over to anybody and say, "here, take this position". It just doesn't work like that.

I had one member do this on a forum I owned about 6 months ago. I decided to test him and he stayed as a Moderator.

Trial runs seem to be very popular these days. I was a member of one forum that did such a thing. If you applied to be staff, you got a two week trial session to find out how good you would be.

Yeah.

But, he wasn't on trial, he'd been Moderator for about 3 months before he made the demand.

Hey, that's one way to do it. If someone's a moderator, and they demand to be an admin, do a trial run of how well he'd do. If he doesn't do so great, then he can stay on as a moderator. I like that idea as well.

Yeah. 🙂

Well, that'd be better than totally demoting him, anyways. Give him a bit of a challenge to see whether or not he'd actually be able to handle a job like administator.
