do you think admins should stick to the day to day running of forums only, or do you expect them to moderate their communities or other forums too? or maybe a mixture of both? what are your thoughts?

I personally do both. If you're active and have the time to moderate then that's all good. But if running a forum is all you are able to do (maybe the workload is bulky) then living up to your position would be fine.

It's better to do mod tasks too.I mean,as an admin we don't have that much stuff to do except a few upgrades and we can't possible expect two mods to delete 900+comments everyday now.Can we? 🙂

It is better to do Moderator Tasks too, it's their forum and they must help keep the community clean too.

I would say "both". It is nice to have a dedicated moderation team (Go Mika!) like we do here at Forum Promotion to deal with the moderation, but that doesn't mean that they should be alone. When I am not busy with administration tasks, if I see something, I will commonly still take care of it, or at the very least inform my staff of an issue needing to be dealt with.

I'd mostly agree with Jack on this one, however; I find myself not doing many moderation tasks unless something comes up that needs to be dealt with immediately and there isn't a moderator online.

I'd say an administrator should do both, since if you see something that a moderator can do but you catch it first, why the hell would you leave it for a moderator to deal with? To me, whoever on staff catches an issue first should be the one to deal with it if they are able to. It doesn't exactly take long to warn a member or move a topic or delete some spam posts.

I say as an administrator you must do both, in some cases your moderators may be busy and may not have time to check the reports and such. It's always best to help your staff, especially if your site is very active and everyone logs on at different times.

I tend to do mod tasks as well. I don't see a problem with an admin doing mod tasks as well, especially on larger forums.
