About what time do you normally start looking for a Co-Admin?

I'm thinking about looking for one because my forum is needing around 5 hours a day at least of moderation from an admin.. And I'm slowly getting a little burned out..

It really varies as some forums require more work the others. Sometimes forums may require alot of work at one time then are easy to manage and don't require much work then will suddenly require a few days of hard work again.

If you feel that is taking to much time to manage the forum then you should hire another one.

I feel that most of the time you only need a co admin if the main admin is going away for a long time or has too much other work to do as well.

I run a pretty large forum (currently 344,000+ posts, around a million posts all time) and I'm the only admin and have been for the two years it's been up. I only hired a moderator about a month ago but he doens't really need to do anything.

So it really depends, some forums will need constant moderation whilst others such as my own don't need much at all.

You should only look to start hiring other staff members when you can't handle it yourself, not just for the sake of it

I don't ever look for co admins really. Moderators yeah but you don't need an admin. Some people do though so you should get one when you really feel you aren't coping.

Pretty much what Cloverfield said;

Before looking for a co-admin ask yourself whether a Global Moderator can fill in for whatever it is you need doing.

Hiring a co-admin is a big thing as you really need to trust them and know that they wont do anything without you giving the OK.

Can't really count a forum that haves multiple forums merged together really a good example, but I guess it really depends how many active members your forum currently have and how many posts you get by those members.

Normally when i create a site, so i can get help with making the forums and stuff

The best is setting up the forum and administering it. I would hate to setup a website and get someone to add forums etc.

Yeah i get your point, but im so lazy. so i get my work done for me lol

Ill do some work on it if you want. When i have free time ill mod it for you.

I run a Religious forum so it not only takes more staff but also more work administering plus I have a full-time job (with odd hours) and a life outside of the forum.. So because of this, I am usually on when most of my members are not.. well.. except those in Singapore.. (seriously.. 😛 )

But all well.. I need a stronger member base before I start looking for a Co-Admin right now anyway.. Sadly when I moved to adv. hosting my members scattered for the most part.. 🙁

But all well.. This just makes it more of a challenge!

I usually add about 1 Moderator per 50 members. Maybe 1 admin per 500 members, but even thats pushing it. As an admin all you should really do is make backups, add MODs, advertise, and settle Moderator fights. The moderators should run the forums for you, such as deleting spam posts, banning members and such. The admin really shouldnt have to work as hard. Compare it to santa and elves, the elves (mods) do all the work while the admin (santa) gets fat and takes the credit -D-

I haven't had any new admins since 2004.. My admins are all people I am either related to, know personally, worked with before and am good friends with.

The only exception to that would be the host owner, who comes onto the forum when I am having a problem.. otherwise, he doesn't really count.

But I haven't hired any new admins, and I doubt that I ever will need to.

I'm the only admin on my forum now, but I once had 2 others. I found that I don't need other admins since I can do all the work myself.
