Adobe to charge monthly subscriptions

What do you think about this, would you be willingly to pay a monthly subscription for programs like Photoshop and Dreamweaver? I for once would certainly not be. Photoshop etc is already expensive enough, and to be honest I just don't think I use any of their products enough to justify paying monthly.

You should note that you can still buy the program at full price and not have the recurring monthly cost. This is just for their subscription based Creative Cloud, which already exists, and now they're just updating it.

You make it sound like the only way to get PS/DW now is to pay a monthly expense, that is not the case.
 
But if you don't subscribe to it then they will freeze it at version 6, and only provide bug fixes.
 
I think it is good for people who only use Adobe software for a few months like to take a PS course to graduate college by getting a credit for the course. But, may not be good for people who want to use Adobe software for a long time.

If they bundle more software, and tools, it can be a good deal. It would be like a webhosting subscription, but for renting software on a monthly basis instead of a server and domain for hosting a site.
 
Id rather (and do) Own software than Rent It. sounds like yet another way to make more money out of us. :\
 
I prefer free and open source software like Gimp, Paint.net, Inkscape, Tuxpaint, and other free image editors and creators.

Buying paid software does not seem like a good value these days when there are many free alternatives which are good enough for my needs. I may donate to free software if I find it good to help support future releases.

However, I would pay for computer game software like EA's Need For Speed since they are fun to play.

I don't think Adobe cares about the simpleton user because they know we're going to torrent it anyways.

It may be, but that means you would always have to pay for the software to use it. For example, I could buy CS6 and then not bother when CS7 comes out as CS6 fulfills my needs. With this new payment scheme, I would have to continuously pay to use the software.
 
Photoshop CS6 is $699 full price, but a two-year subscription to the software at $20 a month will cost only $480.

The Master Collection of the suite goes for $2599, but a two-year subscription would run you $1200.
You can cancel. But if you don't like paying monthly to end up paying less, that's not a good way to handle money.
 
That entirely depends on your point of view I suppose. I currently get a student discount, which yes I also get for Creative Cloud. However, in a years time I won't get that, taking it back to the full price, possibly making it cheaper for me to buy the full package now. If I was going to buy now I'd do the maths but at the minute I don't have the time.

Also, monthly charges depend on you having the money every month. This makes it harder to save up - for example to be sure you could afford you'd need to have a stable income. Paying upfront allows you to save up (without having to worry about prices going up).

In the same sense you can put away all the money you were going to spend on the software as the fund for it - just depends on how well you are at handling money.
 
Creative Suite 6 Master Collection Student and Teacher Edition will cost me $1,000. With a $1,000 I can have Student and Teacher Creative Cloud account for 50 months (little bit more than 4 years).

I think it is better to have the Creative Cloud because Adobe normally upgrade the suite about every year or two, which means I will have to pay even more to use the latest version of adobe products. With Creative Cloud I will be able to use newer versions without extra costs.

I saw this. So confusing after being a PS user since 2006. Can't believe they're switching to this. They must be losing a TON of money.
