What do you think about ads on a forum or website? Is there such a thing as having too many pop-ups? Do you or would you pay extra to have no ads on yours?
I was on a forum awhile back where every time I wanted to post a reply, an ad popped up. I ended up leaving as I was quite frustrated. Didn’t seem like the owner cared.
I don’t mind seeing ads. Proboards has them. I haven’t paid to remove them as I don't find them too intrusive.

Having so many ads in your face is what I always dislike, I mean I used to be on lcpdfr.com allot and what points me off that the fact that their ads are so many and large that takes forever for the site to load for me. Plus they are so much traffic anyway that I do not know why they need it.

As owners, we have an n option to have ads and those ads make as money. But then again I been running ads since the start and still have not had my first payment 🙁

If you are offering your service for free, there is no harm in running ads to make some money so that you can manage the website running cost. However, I am against usng intrusive ad slike pop up ads or pop under ads.

If ads get in my way of navigating a forum, I'm out of there. I realize the owners want to make money, but not at the expense of member's experience on the site. One of the most frustrating ads is the one where I have to physically close it in order to get to the thread I clicked on.

I am all for forum owners having ads on their forum as I know and understand that being able to monetize your forum is a great way to be able to bring new upgrades to the forum and also keep hosting going, especially if they pay for software and hosting and a domain. The only time I will steer away from a forum that has ads is if they become way too intrusive and it ends up being that I am seeing more and more ads each time I change pages to the point where browsing the forum just becomes too difficult due to the ads. I feel with ads they should be there but to a minimum.

I personally like ads online. I find stuff that relates to me from the ad trackers. I don't feel paranoid by them like some do but I can understand why some don't like them.

I despise a popup ad unless its to subscribe to a newsletter.

I won't allow popups on my forum even if that means I lose profit.

Regular banner ads are fine as long as there isn't too many of them.
