Surely Google Ads can't be worth placing on your site. I remember when i was running Power-Ads a while ago we experimented with Google Ads (much to the member's dissatisfaction) and we made pennies from them.
I don't understand why people do it. Google Ads are hardly "attractive" and only make complaints. How often do you see a member start a new feedback topic saying "Wow, the Ads on this forum look great!".
Personally i have gone into the world of top-level affiliating with Web Hosts and other such industries. Whilst the majority of the time they're only PPA (Pay per acquisition) you're likely to make more money on one sale through there than you are with a few clicks on text links.
What are your thoughts on Adsense, and how it benefits your site or forum?
Personally, I believe in the other side of this. I know you make just a few pennies to START OUT WITH...but soon as your website grows, people start to PAY to have their ads ON THAT Google Ad. So therefore, you make more money. It just starts to become a process.
There are obviously other programs, that many use because they, unlike Google Adsense (because of Google Checkout) don't support Paypal.
But back to the subject. I think you are going to say "Well my website was big at the time". Very well may have been, but that's not the point. The people who pay to their ads on your website must SEE that, and in order for that to happen they must see that you have been with Google Adsense for a while and know that you aren't someone who will drop out within a few days, or weeks. You wouldn't wont your ads on some website that just started Google Adsense and it get very little or no traffic, would you?
I run google adsense across my network of websites, including my forum, and it pays for the hosting, domains, extras and after that there is still a bit left over each month. So IMO, it's worth it.
Although my sites to get millions of views a month, if your site is only getting 10 or 20 views a day you won't earn anything.
I was told by google that I was a risk to advertisers, so they banned my account. It doesn't bother me too much since there are other networks I can use for ads on my forum.
I think google ads is garbage.. They are attempting to provide like radio/tv ads, but it's like hardly anything works... I think I would rather see a clasified online, or in the paper, than on a web search.
Considering Google run literally millions of Adsense accounts it can take longer for some sites to get reported than others. It does seem a shame that Google will ban you for having such insignificant words on your site, but at the end of the day they're the ones who set the guidelines and i guess they're there for a reason. ~neutral~
From an Advertiser's point of View (i manage the Advertising of my brother's site) i wouldn't want my Ads appearing on a site inappropriate content (not referring to your forum at this point), who knows what kind of visitor's i'd get ~lol~
According to google adsense policy a stie can't contain 'Excessive profanity'
That is to say your site would NOT be banned for using the word 'damn' or even a worse swear word as long as your site isn't full of it.
ALSO - how many of you have a privacy policy?
To run adsense you MUST have one which describes what you do with information and explain that Google adsense will place cookies and also how to get rid of them.
I think at the time FP had google ads I don't think there was a requirement for a privacy policy. That's something recent that I can recall. However I could be wrong on all of this...
I dont put paid ads on my site as of yet. I use an affiliate banner system instead. I put a web banner (500x75) on your site, and you put one on my site. Ive got them loaded into a java code so its random. They work just like paid ads, except it costs me nothing and tend to pull in traffic from sites that arnt allowed to put paid advertising on their sites, like free hosts for example. How do I make money and pay for the domain ect.? I use phpbb3 so theres no software licenses. Contest prizes are often little things such as being able to delete posts for a few days or something. I pay for the host and domain out of pocket but its not that bad. With www.bluehost.com it cost me $160 for 2 years paid host + free domain name. I manage to say the least.
