Someone registered on my forum today and posted once in the advertising section and hasn't been seen since!! No introduction, nothing!

I wouldn't mind if i had an advertising forum but it's a graphics forum with one forum in off topic for advertising your websites! What do you think of hit and runners and what do you do with them! LOL

I hate this. It is pretty annoying. I dont do it on any forum that ive signed up to. Ive at least chatted in offtopic forums, advertised my forum and introduced myself.

Why do people do it? It doesnt take long.

That is exactly the reason we have a 4 post count requirement here, so that people don't take advantage of our main service without giving anything at all in return. ~smile~

I'll put my hands up and admit I've done it from time to time. The problem is you'll tend to find every promotion forum is the same, they have the same sections, same services, same kind of look and feel. More often than not, the same kind of topics will be posted on each one so eventually you end up repeating yourself.

To be honest if your forum doesn't have any post count requirements to promote, I don't see why it is worth complaining ~lol~

I'm talking about common courtesy here, surely you must understand that!! If i join a forum for whatever reason i will always at least post an introduction!

Well that's your choice. You can't offer a free service to someone and when they use it start complaining that you've got nothing in return...if you get annoyed by people posting and leaving why not just set a post count requirement? ~confuse~

That is a valid point i agree, perhaps i have more manners than some people then! ~rolleyes~

I would either have a post count requirement, or a rule saying that ads from inactive members will be deleted, if you don't want people doing that.

Yeah.. have a post requirement but not too big. The most annoying thing for me is if i sign up to a forum i have to post around 10 posts just to promote and i think its a bit too big.
I think around 2-4 so they can introduce themselves and chat around so they get a taste of the forum. You never know, they might enjoy the forum and stay around 😉

I wouldn't say it is down to just manners... More often then not it is down to practicality.

I for one do quite often "advertise and run" but more often then not it is not because of bad manners or anything like that. For me it is down to the fact that i have advertised this forum on over 100 forums and it is not practical for me to always post more then what is required and it is not really practical for me to keep returning after i promoted. When i am online i do have many other things to do aswell as promoting so aswell as signing up and advertising i have to help run this place and deal with services here aswell as all the other sites i am part of that are nothing to do with Forum Promotion. They are forums that i am part of because i want to be and because i do like to spend some time online not doing something related with promotion and this site.

This does not really leave me enough time to post more then i need to and keep visiting the sites i promoted on. I would like to if i could but there just isn't enough available time for me to do it as i would like to help out other forum and post and help build activity on them.

This was the one problem I had on my ad boards. It was hard for me to find a good post requirement and if it wasn't set then the member would advertise and not care about the forum again.

Well, the idea is that you need to make yourself known and establish what kind of person you are by posting and talking about yourself and different topics. If you're mean and nasty, people are probably not going to join your board. I've own my board for almost 5 years now. I was never keen on advertising on my board or me advertising my board elsewhere. But since I've had trouble getting members the last 2 years, I've decided to advertise a bit more hoping to get my board running up to what it was when it was first opened.

Also post requirements are based on forum activity aswell. If you run an advertising forum or a forum with an advertising section and you have 6 members and 40 posts no one will sign up and post for example 10 times to advertise as there is no point as there is not many people to advertise to. If for example here at FP we add a requirement of needing 10 posts then alot of people would still advertise as it would be more worth it as we have alot more traffic.

I hated this and always had a post limit from the start. Now it's impossible for someone to do it as the section is locked and members have to pay to create a topic in there now.

I hate this. My boards been struggling from inactivity issues, and that happens, only with the intro. Someone comes, introduces him/herself, and leaves. Before I moved, I had about 15 members who did that.

Why won't you, do it like ghosts forum BH, make them refer to introductions first then let them browse the forum.

I require 10 posts for someone to advertise on The Island. As it's a general discussion forum and we all would like to see some sort of discussion out of our members rather than them just plugging their board and leaving. If they wanted to plug and leave, they can do that on my advertising forum -razz-

Pff I don't even bother to count how many so called 'Death' members my board has.
I'm still puzzled why people sign up at all if they don't want to be active.

I guess they sign up with the intention to be active then post about a couple times dont like the atmosphere and decide to bugger off.

Yeah I have done a few times when I register and just leave due to the community being dull and not active or other problems, like staff being over powering etc. It's the way the forum world spins right?
