I’ve been reworking my advertisement a bit and put it out there for my co-admin to look over it. We’re kind of at a stand-still when it comes to the length of the ad. Currently we have a rather short one, I believe it’s three sentences, but the one that’s currently being worked on it a couple of paragraphs.

So, to get to the point of this thread, what do you prefer: short advertisements that are to the point or longer ones that give you more details? Are you more inclined to check out a site that took time to write out a long ad or a short one? Oh, also, do advertisements ever persuade you to join a forum?

An old saying that might help:
An advertisement should be like a skirt; long enough to cover the main parts, but short enough to keep things interesting

Personally, I hate reading huge essays that are supposedly advertisements. Include a few facts, what you have to offer, and why people should join. Don't write paragraphs upon paragraphs, however.

Adverts should be short, but long enough to cover the main points and details.

I like that. And yea, that's how it should be. Nice and short 😛
