Basically I'm interested to know what you think of advertisements on a website/forum?

Do you find them displeasing, lovely, or annoying? Would it make the differences between whether you stay on a content filled website, or not?

For me, no, advertisements do not matter. However if they take up 70% or more of the website, or are in oblivious spots, then it does annoy me and possibly make me go to another website.

Your thoughts and opinions?

I don't mind them, as long as they're not annoying types like those that block content, automatically play sound, cause pop up windows or slow down the browser too much due to using flash.

To me, they're a necessary evil. They pay the bills, but they aren't usually that attractive.

As long as the ads aren't covering every little inch of the website they don't annoy me.

Nothing wrong with advertisements, an website needs to make money. I just don't like pages overcrowded with ads.

If the ads really relate to the website and do not relate to any scam, then I do not find them annoying. Also banner ads are fine, but I think slider and popup ads are quite unnecessary. In addition they should have a nice design and not just a white background with red writing saying "Win 1,000,000$!" or something similar to that.

I find sites that user services like adsense really annoying. I know its to earn some extra cash but it can sometimes get annoying. Of course, forums like this that have advertisements for users site, that's fine.

Yeah, I am against ads on my forum. I have always removed ads from my websites, because I hate seeing ads on sites. Like King said above me, they are only good if you are offering them for your members for either a service or if they pay to place an ad there, ei BSA.

Yeah, I wish that they'd stop doing popups, popunders, and those silly things that get bigger on hovering...

Ads are good, though. They make money. I don't see why some idiotic pundits say that it's so bad...especially when they have "sponsors" everywhere!

I really don't mind ads on pretty much any site myself, as long as they meet these requirements:
-No NSFW ads.
-Don't fill up the page with ads
-No popups of any kind
-No link monetization

As long as sites meet these requirements I don't enable my adblocker when using them. In fact, I browse 99% of the time without the adblocker extension enabled, because I believe in supporting webmasters, unlike a lot of people these days who just install an adblocker because of YouTube (which is run by idiots by the way in regards to their ad placements and types) and forget about people trying to pay the bills.

I am not against ads, until as said by many..pop ups, you have won this much kind of ads really annoy me.

If user is contributing to the forum then you have to be a little soft, they may put any link in the post as well.

I like advertisements, especially ads with nice graphics. But of course, too much of them is annoying 😉

Yes as long as there not intrusive i think that they help generate income to cover services like hosting, domain fees, etc.

Whilst this is a good point, I mean't as a webmaster, not a webuser.

Some times i don't mind them depending what it is. It also depends where you put them. What I really hate is those surveys that lock out the site.
