I hate people who advertise via pm. The people who do this will try and argue "it's not in the rules". Common sense shouldn't need to be in the rules unless you're that much of a dork. Some users don't see a problem with adverts via pm. How would you like it if someone joined your forum only to spam your members private messages with ads?

I always laugh at the morons who send these ads to the staff. It's like they're just asking to be banned.

I've set up a removal of private message code which will stop suspected spammers from sending private messages.

I hate them more then anything else. Here we force users to post 10 times before sending a PM to stop people spamming straight away and their are PM spamming bots out there so it will stop them. We also have the ability to clear the outbox of certain users so if someone sends out loads of PM's we can clear them in a couple of clicks.

We do actively enforce our PM rules and we don't hesitate to add anyone to our PM restricted group who break the rules. There has been a massive reduction in pm spam of all types in the last 3 months.

Main reason I hate ProBoards, they don't have the feature to disable private messages for certain users. The code I'm using doesn't even work. >_>"

Proboards is a bit behind the times really in terms of the look and features of it.

I guess that's why people hate free hosts so much - they aren't advanced.

No tottally true. Some are advanced but on a free host your forum is only as advanced as your host makes it. When you have webhosting and host it yourself you then can control everything from the software you use and what mods you add so you can then basically make the forum do what ever you want.

Most hosts have the ability to stop users sending PM's though.

Yeah I hate when people do it aswell. That is why I make that rule clear as day.

It's quite annoying, I will get some kind of idiot doing that one day. 😛 I've had it here and I just deleted the message.

Actually, I just got a person on Websurfs trying to do this to me, now. I wanted to forward the email, but I can't find the feature for doing that. Unless I hit quote reply, replace the original senders name, that kind of thing. Personally, I hate them. They think that by sending you a message saying Please Join My Forum they are going to get thousands of visitors overnight. Definetly not true. Promoting a forum takes patience, and what some people don't realize is that there are thousands of forums on the Internet. People don't have to join your forum if they don't want to.

I only find it annoying if they do it over and over. But I dont tend to read the post, If I see PM adverts, I delete, Warn, and then ban the user if they persist.

Mhm... Well, on my board, I have a minimum amount of posts before a user can use the PM system (as new members are most likely to PM Advertise). So, I have it on 5 posts, and once they have made the 5, I can see what type of member they are (I can tell, even if its games 🙂)

Like most people I hate spam PM's. I don't mind if someone sees something in one of my posts and then PM's me with something relevant to it. But the people who send out lots of PM's to members are true spammers and should be banned. I encourage members to report PM spam at our business forum.
