I'm currently doing my AS levels and I'm contemplating what to do next. Should I stay on and do A2 or should I leave and try and enter employment?

I don't really think I have the academic intelligence and motivation to do that well at A Level and I'm not sure whether it's worth staying on for an extra year, I'm not sure whether it would be a great decision.

All advice is appreciated.

It all depends what your are studying to do, if it's something that will lead to a different qualification like teaching then it's worth sticking to, if it's a hands on qualification like photography, engineering or accountancy then future employers do like staff with "in work" experience. Maybe then you could go to day release college, keeping the education there but getting work experience in the process? It's a tough choice for most teens these days, real jobs are few and far between........good luck with your decision, it has to be yours only at the end of the day. :great:

Thanks for the advice. I think getting ''in work'' experience would be a good idea, I would even consider an apprenticeship 😛

Day release college doesn't sound like a bad idea either and I agree, at the moment jobs are hard to come by as you said.

I agree with Miss Take, it depends on what career you want to go into and what you are studying.

By the time I got to 16 I'd had enough of studying. I left school and got a job as an office junior within a Management Accounts office. It paid peanuts, but I stuck it out and gained experience.

Now 12 years on I have worked my way up and now have a very good job as a Financial Analyst. I get paid more than most people I know my age, including those who went to college and Uni. So it really does depend what your long term plans are and if you want to go and work, be prepared to start at the bottom and work your way up. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Thanks.

I know that will be the case. At the age of 16/17, opportunities are limited... however it's obvious people can be successful leaving school early, proved by people such as yourself. 😛
