Please can someone tell me which is the best free forum host.

My requirements.

1. Phpbb3

2. unlimited bandwidth & size.

3. unintusve. doesnt delete forums etc.

4. Good uptime.

Plizzzzzzzzzz help me. I host a forum on a v2 free forum host want to make another forum.

For free phpBB3 i recommend http://forumotion.com/ as there are ad-free if you live in the UK or the US. They are funded through ads on the French speaking forums as they are a French based company although they do speak English and have and English support forum. They have alot of features and have a custom ACP with many new features in.

I suggest that you host it yourself. You can get free hosting from www.purejet.net, and all that you have to do is upload the files. Then you will be able to add whatever MODs you want.

Yea I agree. Host it yourself if you know what you are doing. Fowler and I use Cirtex Hosting and a basic plain is only $2.99/mo. Also if you host yourself you can have a blog/website as an extension of your forum. I have both a blog and forum on my site.

While a bad idea, I charged my hosting and now I wish I started with free hosting first. I have to agree with Fowler with forumotion. At least they don't have ads like other hosts do. But that could change though as forumotion gets bigger.

I don't think they will get bigger because they are supported by the french version as Fowler said but you could be right.

He could just get free hosting like x10hosting and make the forum himself though like willielwgg said.

I would be careful with free hosts. Some are good and some free hosts go down never to be seen again and all websites hosted removed.

It is best to go with a host that has good uptime and no major performance problems and ones that are pretty big and been around for a while as they are less likely to vanish.

You'll also want some good amount of bandwidth in case your site really grows. What's good? I don't really know...

So far this month this forum has used 3954.56mb of bandwidth so that should give an idea of how much you need. Really you only need 10gb max unless your forum is very big.

I'm sure Cloverfield could give us a good idea also... -D-
The most I ever went through was 100 MB ~neutral~

They probably get through alot more not just because of all the traffic but all the fact that vb is abit bigger in size too with all the features they have.

Thank you so much for all the advice.

I dont hv money for a paid host .

I am a lecturer & want to set up a forum for my students for college projects, seminars, faqs projects, etc.

I checked out forumotin & prophpbb.

Tho both are very good site. Forumotion has an active directory. & prophpbb wants 75% of forums to be open.

Most of my students are females. & they wont like to have their details in open.

Also places like atfreeforum, create forum say that they enter hosted forums & check them.

Is it legal? Coz members post there details etc.

Can u suggest some non-intrusive sites. I dont post anything illegal but mine & my students {who are all females }, queries, details, project ideas, will be there.

I earlier made a forum at X10hosting but they deleted my site & forum & all of us lost our 3 months material & hardwork.

Also the support is very rude -redface-

when I once wrote a query there I got a very rude reply. I felt so insulted & humiliated because my students also logged on there to check there & saw those replies.

It was so xtremely disappointing because I may hv been a complete novice at technology but I am sure I was older than most of the Support there.

& they want contant posts at their forum which as a busy teacher & a mother & a wife is not that possible ~cry~

I also just checked igotfree .

It looks xtremely good but can u suggest a way to get a free domain etc.

I hv uploaded phpmyadmin, phpbb3, apache there. What do I do next

Btw, is it reliable.

Pliz help me. I am very new to all this. Am forced into it due to necessity.

In the present economic scenario it is very difficult for me to even spend $3/mo

Again Than You for all your help.

it seems like you want everything for free and unfortunately that is not possable,

if you go with a free or paid host they do have a right to check the forum as its hosted on their server, generally if your paying for hosting then most host simply won't bother but it varies, some free hosts may check your forum once in a while
