Our site is known for very contreversial debates, as it is a free speech forum. Our Terms of service include that, it is ok to debate a topic, but u are violating terms of service when u bash ppl. I recently had a thread turn very sour. I was about religion. A member of ours is a Jehovah witness, and feels very strongly about certain things. Through in a few athiasts, and yeah. the thread went hay wire. The member i first mentioned was a friend of mine, and wanted ppl warned ( hence banned for 2 days) cause others werent aggreeing with her. The admin team, did not see it neccessary, as their was not any bashing. So she asked to be removed, for board related reasons, we cannot delete accounts, it throws ppls counts off. She was upset over that, and started deleting threads on her own. Now what to do?
Firstly is the legal aspect. In SOME countries you may, by law, be obligated to remove their accounts/personal data. As I'm not a lawyer I'm not going to advise you that.
Secondly - what forum software are you running? I don't understand how deleting an account will stop anything from working or throw accounts off.
Lastly if she is deleting threads then just remove their permission to remove threads.
If it is not possible to delete the account as she wishs you could do either one of the following things
1) Talk to her and try to calm her down and explain
2) Ban or deactivate the account or edit her permissions in order to stop her logging in and deleting her threads.
When we have deleted accounts in the past, it effected threads and ppls post counts. The more the deleted member posted, the more it effected threads. Her post count was 1500. So, if we deleted her acct, all those threads she replied to, would be thrown off. And ppl's posts counts will be effected. I am with forumarena, and i believe we are phpbb 3.0.
Quick way is to go into the users profile and click the administrate user link then you get redirected to the manage user page and then take alook at the screenshot attached and you get an option to either keep the posts or remove them -D-
EDIT: That is a shame... I don't see why any host would remove things like that. -~-
What you could do is just edit the users information such as email so none of their information is there so it is like an account that doesn't belong to that person.
