Here's the idea, many people affiliate by putting a link or button on there front page. I'm not at all attacking this method, but what I like to do is have a subforum dedicated to affiliates were you don't just get to post a simple button but a description as well. That way, when someone searches for a topic on my forum, they will see your site listed as a resource. If they want to try something new, or are looking for a certain type of forum, they can browse the list. I see this as a very powerful way to affiliate. Is it a complete replacement for other methods?, I'd have to say no, but it feels a need the others don't.

And it doesn't even have to be a forum but it would be much easier for forums than with a website were you'd have to make a new page for every affiliate manually instead of just posting a thread.

You can even register, join the Affiliate group and edit the thread if you need to, sounds good right? I think so. Let me know if you're interested. 🙂

I'm not picky on who I affiliate with, as long as those sites aren't hate sites or manipulative in any way. Nobody should be judged by race, culture, country, orientation, religion or gender. That's not to much to ask now is it?

That's basically what sounds like a directory. I belong to one of them, actually two if you consider this site which kind of has that in their basic promotion section. I've kicked around the idea of dividing our ad board into subforums for different classes of ads, but I feared devoting too much of our site to a directory aspect when it should primarily be an RPG. But it's not a bad idea at all.

Yes but a directory is usually one way isn't it?

I think it's a great idea but I don't see many people implementing it on their forum.

I can see how people would be worried they'd loose members. But if I saw a site that was willing to do this I'd be more willing to join. I would imagine it depends on what kind of forum you have..

If it's something like a gaming forum, were you have so many out there, it could be a problem.

It's a cool idea, just one more approach to take. I don't fear losing members; if people like our game they won't go drifting off into our affiliates no matter how pretty their buttons, ads, whatever are. I fear diluting our forum's main focus, you'd get people coming only to browse the directory rather than roleplay {in the case of my site}. I could see it working on a site that is more open to and related to that kind of thing though. Directories, one way or two way can get you a LOT of traffic IF they're heavily marketed and run correctly.

Good point.

What do you think about my case? I figured seeing has how I was going to make a directory to help non-profits out, this seemed like another way to help my members find what they're looking for. I just need to make sure I keep up my content as well.
