For a start it's difficult to find good affiliates, as you don't want to place them on similar sites and other sites rarely accept them from different genres. I think also people tend to skip past affiliates these days, for example I can't remember really paying attention to the affiliates at the bottom of this forum, or any forum for that matter.
I think there are much better ways of getting targeted traffic (eg: topsite listings, directory submission) than relying on an affiliate from another site. ~smile~
Well, i do have a good story. a member found my forum from an affiliate button seen on some random forum, and he's been there, his brother, and 2 cousins, all with a combined post of over 2,000 added to my forum, and they're all graffix people. the first post mattiebo made on my forum was wanting to make my forum menu buttons, and they've been there since he made them. and they're some of my dear friends now.
but, affiliating is good to get your forum out there, but, most members to a forum don't look, i think it's when an admin is browsing similar forums, and looks at the buttons on that similar forum, for other forums alike to advertise on (if anyone followed what i just wrote ~rolleyes~ )
Interesting topic... I've been playing with the idea of making some affiliate buttons to try and generate some traffic. I guess every little bit will help... lol.
