If you want more members from your affiliates, don't affiliate with the same type of forum! If you own a sports forum, and affiliate only with other sports forums, people will see your link, but they already have a place to talk about sports. But if you affiliate with a Nintendo forum, members of that forum who may also like sports will see your link, hopefully click, and hopefully join!

For my forum it's hard to find people who know who the band we discuss are so I need to affiliate with forums who have something to do with comedy or music. As it's pointless if no one on the board we affiliate with knows who The Bonzo Dog Band are no one will join.
