Do you have a section on your forum where people can post their affiliate link, and have an image posted on your forum where other people can go to register if they wanted to? Do you take advantage of this on other forums that have this?
I personally do not have such a feature on my discussion board. If those wanted to have their own forum and special rank on my discussion board, they would be considered sponsors rather than affiliates (sponsors sounds better in a public sense and grabs people's attention much, much faster).
I honestly think that most affiliate deals are a waste of time and effort. Most of the forums that do affiliations are pretty small, and there's a very good chance that they won't even be around in a month. They can work if you can do them with forums larger than yours (or forums that are the same size; if you have an estabished forum). However, the "post a 81*31 affiliate image" thing doesn't do much, if anything at all from what I've seen.
I have an scrolling affiliate bar on my forum near the footer. For most of the sites we are affiliated with I don't think we're gaining anything from them. Now, we have affiliated with some directory type sites and I have seen a small boost of sign ups or traffic for a short period of time with those. They all have a pretty good amount of traffic though. Since the bar is maxed out in terms of space now there won't be anything new added and it will probably be removed at some point.
I have never really tried using affiliates and I'm not too sure if they are really helpful in bringing in new members. Does anyone have any good experiences working with affiliates?
We have a couple. It hasn't helped much, but having it there at least helps the word get out about the site.
There's not a place to post about it though; the board we have for it is just a place for the images to go. If people wanted to affiliate with us, they could just contact one of the staff and we'd consider it.
