Are you still active on it? As most of you know, I turned Marie 1988 over to a co-administrator who seems to be doing a very good job at keeping the place up and running. I feel that even though it's no longer my forum, I should still try to be dedicated to it by posting around as often as I can. If not as a staff member or even an owner, at least as a regular member, and I'm all too happy to do this. I really am. Plus, it's comforting to me to know that the forum is in good hands. How about you guys? After turning over a forum, do you still try to remain active on there by posting around, or do you try to stay away from there as much as possible?

I only turned control of my forum co-admin temporarily and that was when I was busy with life issues personally. He seemed to do a fairly good job with the increased permissions, though I must say that things certainly sped up on my forum again when I returned.

Never have a turned control over to another Administrator on my website. If I have to go on vacation, or take time off for life/personnel issues, I leave them in their same position only their amount of responsibility changes.

On-topic: I've transferred my forum once temporarily to my co-admin as I wouldn't have been around at the time, but I wouldn't do it for a long time if I can help it.

Actually, it's more on-topic than it seems. GimGak's just making an observation, a very well-founded observation at that. And no matter what, if it's critical of any nature, she always takes it the wrong way, unfortunately. Not everyone is gonna spit rainbows and glitter at you, and to expect that is naive and ridiculous.
As far as the co-admin thing goes, they either need to have been there from the start or prove over an amount of time that they either really want to do it or really care about the place.
And of course, it may be a choice that is out of everyone's hands and someone just has to step up and do it. I guess what I'm really getting at is it's almost always circumstantial.

The new owner needs to at least be a administrator before I hand over anything to them. This is the same with mostly everyone. Some people are too quick, pick a member from the community and just say this is your site. That is pretty stupid.

And rather irresponsible too.
Personally, if I am turning a forum over for a reason, I'm not going to stay around, as there is obviously a reason I've done it. If I am doing it for a temporary leave of absence, than that is one thing. If I've sold the community, it's a done deal. I'm not going to stick around and post unless it was in the sale deal. If I'm getting out of it because I don't have the time, I'll post when I get the time if the topic still interests me. It really depends on the reason I'm getting rid of the forum.

I have never turned a forum over to a co-administrator forever. Maybe for a few weeks, but not forever. 🙂

Maybe you just haven't found the niche that's right for you yet. There's nothing wrong with starting a forum, finding that it doesn't motivate you any more and then passing it over to someone else. It's not a crime. In my opinion the only crime would be to give up searching for something that truly inspires and motivates you.

Well, I have taken my forum back, and I am giving it another go. I just don't know what to do any longer. I'm going to try to stick with this because I really want to run a forum, yet there's too much competition and all I'm getting out of it is too many people turning against me, which is pathetic and I wish it would stop. I really would wish it would stop.
Some of you guys: Put yourself in my shoes and see how you'd feel if I made you hurt and upset over every decision (good or bad) that you made about your forum. How would you feel if I said, "would you just give up already? You've opened and closed your forum x amount of times, and because of it, no one will want to join; just give it up!" I'm sick of all the hateful comments. If you don't have anything nice to say than don't say anything at all.
