I have a massive fascination with the history of Alcatraz. Anyone else interested in it?
I've lived a short drive away from SF my whole life and still never toured Alcatraz. I've seen it a billion times though, can't miss it when you're there. One time on a school field trip when I was a kid we went boat ride around the bay and I seen it up close but we didn't get out of the boat. Maybe one of these days I'll go on an actual tour.
You should, it could be quite a neat place to visit!

Was interested in it at one point. Kinda lost interest. Though if I were in town long enough, I might take a tour, if I know I have the time to do so.
No idea what happened to them, no idea if they even abe to live there lives or ended up dead. so much videos that you can watch that people make and do regards to what they think what happen or what would happen

My hubby and I visited Alcatraz in 2019. That was our last vacation that we went on prior to Covid-19 arriving.
I learned an interesting bit of information from one of the park rangers. There were 2 ways a person ended up at Alcatraz. 1) The person was prone to breaking out of jail or 2) you weren't exactly a model inmate. You didn't end up at Alcatraz based on what crimes you committed or anything like that....you were a prisoner from somewhere else and they couldn't keep you from escaping or you didn't behave.
I got to see the jail cells where the guys escaped from. I can see how they got out of their cells. It's still a mystery to me how they got off the island though if I'm being honest. I visited on a nice, sunny day with very pretty weather and the water was very choppy. I don't see how they would have gotten off the island at night (not being able to see where they were going)......not to mention if the weather was bad at the time they're were escaping.
