There has been a few cases of hosts disappearing... Some of the big ones were jconserv (apparently they had some connection to freeforums.org although i am not sure if that is true or not) and spreebb which was an IPB host that vanished one day. Both without warning.
The problem with a free host is that if it goes you can't do anything and you have lost your forum. That is another reason why you should get paid hosting... Not only are they less likely to disappear, but you also can make backups so in the event your host closes down you can find another and restore it and you lose nothing and you keep your hard work -🙂-
Just started my first forum. I thought about paid hosting but I'm not sure about the access security side of things so decided to try a free hosting site first and learn a bit about running a forum. Already thinking that paid hosting will give me more flexibility so may change in the not too distant future
~eeeek~ Division was co-owner of Jconserv?! I didn't even know Jconserv closed. That explains why they were the only host besides FF.org to have the Mod Center.
I was support team there for 4 months starting feb this year. I don't want to sound big headed or anything, but since Liam was kicked out and i resigned their support has been terrible. They now only have two official support team members, One of them (Mr.Clark) was 12 years old when he was added to the team, and the other is a stuck up woman who claims she worked for microsoft.
The members there are very helpful, but as far as official support goes - i wouldn't expect anything magnificent.
Well if the forum host gets like 3+ forums registered every day, I think they won't close very soon, cause they get money from every click, from every page of google ads, so why would they get rid of something tha helps them.
Freeforums is one of the slowest, worst host, all the mods notwithstanding

Recently shifted to a webhost. Got everything shifted smoothly.
Even Got Adsense to made same money. Had made $96 in 2 months, before ggogle decided that site was going to be hazardous to it's advertizers & closed the account & stole the money.
Btw, my forum is all girls & it is squeaky clean. Only God knows what was hazardous to those lying thieves.
I don't really worry about my forum closing down...because if it does I will have a back-up site for all the members to go to on a completely different free site. Plus we also have an MSN group to as well.
Well, I would love to have paid hosting but as a 16 year old student with bugger all money that's really not option for me (don't bother saying how cheap it is) so I use a free host.
As for either of my forums closing down? Its only a site. And I have all the members' who I would want to keep in touch with's emails and that's the most important bit for me. The people 🙂
