How do you feel about allowing profanity on your forum if it's not used as a derogatory term.

For example, you would allow someone to say something like: I've had a great f-ing day (f-ing being the actual word)

But you would prohibit it if it was used to offend someone: F you, etc.

Do you think allowing it for non-offending methodology would make your forum freer and more progressive, and potentially making people enjoy it more? Or do you find such language as offensive either way and shouldn't be allowed, period?

Profanity is okay in some occasions, just don't overdo it to the point it makes you look like a dumbass.

I've always allowed it on the forums I've run. I probably have even said it a few times.

I don't mind it on my forum as long as users aren't attacking each other. I've had situations in my Facebook community/group where I had to mediate drama.

I think it depends on the type of site you are running. If it’s like a gaming or general chat site then a little profanity would probably be alright, if it’s a professional service offering site then I feel it is less appropriate and could create a bad image.

It's not allowed on Christianity Haven and we're not supposed to imply the profanity either, although at times I ignore it because they're quoting someone and it probably wouldn't make sense if I removed that portion.

I agree. It's okay as long as it's used sparingly and not the point where the person's posts just come off like trash.

I do not believe the current problem of permitting words which may be considered as profanity is the strict manner allowed in the forum is very bad because it may create the impression of being free more natural. Different people are provoking differently, and maybe some individuals use such words just to multiply the emotional coloring or to tell the joke, without intending to offend anyone. If people are allowed to use it while there are rules against slandering and abusing other people then, it does look like a fair compromise.

I don't like it but I don't ban people for it as long as it isn't alot of profanity.

Doesn't matter to me, I am not bothered by profanity. I don't see it often used anyways on my forums, and when it's used it's sparingly. I also try to refrain from using it on other people's forums unless I know I won't break a rule or upset someone.

I do allow a very small part of it however not in all categories as a gaming site you want to keep to family-friendly even that boards that are 28 plus is allowed and some adults games yeah

I have no issue with it as long as it is in context. If it's just people posting profanity to be edgy or cool then it's not welcome, but if it's relevant to the discussion I'll let it slide.

I use profanity in my day to day life, so overall, I don't mind it so long as it's not being used in an offensive manner. Knowing your audience is important, so generally, I feel it's more of something you have to police yourself on. That said, if someone's doing it excessively, then I would step in and drop a warning.

I make the exception if it's mentioned in the rules of a site as an example, but beyond that, if staff is using profanity in official site communication, then it's definitely a deterrent for me. I'm not bothered by profanity, but there's a time and place for it, and official (and/or professional) communication ain't it.

I don't have anything in my terms that disallows profanity on any of the forums I own but I don't recall anyone posting anything particularly profane.

It's not allowed on any of the corporate customer service based forums I manage but we use a word filter to catch anything untoward.

I suppose it depends on your site type; however, I don't mind it as long as it doesn't get out of hand.

I am totally fine with allowing some profanity as long as it isn't hate talk, discriminating or bullying. If someone just wants to say the f word a few times it doesn't bother me.

I don't see the point.
Everyone can be civil and we don't have to put up with swear words in pleasant conversations. I don't limit the users to stick to this rule but I wouldn't want to use such words and would never allow users to insult each other, using those swear words. However, it's allowed to describe a conversation
